Fantastic. And I really rate Steve’s opinion which makes it all the better.

I wonder what the TT-S would have done fitted with the GT3's PSC2

Exactly. No one ever corrects for this, so these are not totally fair comparisons - subjectivity aside. I mean it’s not a shocker that the GT3 is a more hard core sports car, but still.

I'd even dare to add that fitting the TT-S with PSC2 might alter some of the subjective impressions. I found the street and track handling dynamics of my TT improved noticeably (sharper, more precise and direct) when I fitted it with PSC2. The TT/TT-S will never be a GT3, but fitting PSC2 will narrow the gap objectively and subjectively.

True, although at least Steve names the tyres used so he’s aware whereas you’re right that most just ignore vastly different tyres.

Turbo s came pretty damn close to the gt3 though in lap time. Turbo s wins the straights but gets crushed in the corners.

Turbo would be almost certainly faster on the same tires, which is amazing given how comfortable and practical it is. Both seem totally awesome.

Aside from tires, one thing the GT3 has over the TTS is the dry sump.

Not necessary for all tracks, but for the ones that it matters, it really matters.

GT3 is a track car, TTS is a road car. That said, the fact that its within 1/2 a second of the GT3 is impressive. Like others have said, I believe if the the tires were the same that the TTS would probably be faster than the GT3. The huge difference in torque and HP the TTS has over the GT3 would overcome the huge weight differences. In addition, with a little bit of weight reduction on the TTS (maybe wheels, battery and some other changes) I am certain the TTS would have the faster lap times. No question that the GT3 would still be the better track car overall, the TTS could easily be faster under more similar conditions. Just a tire change and nothing else and I think it would have the faster track time..

Really, the only correct answer is to own both cars.

Why no one does this always blows my mind. Where are the hardcore TTS guys or auto journalists that want to show off what she can do?

Yeah, not sure what the rub is here - 2 different cars, 2 different purposes. For track use I'd much rather have a GT3, and for the road a TT/TTS. A few mods to a TT/TTS and it will be right there with a GT3 - there are plenty of mods for the GT3 also. Let each be the top in their respective categories - which is a win-win for Porsche. Not sure why the sibling rivalry here.

On track, I don't think most people pick the GT3 over the TTS based on lap times, but more based on how the GT3 drives and the emotive experience the GT3 provides for the driver with that 9k redline and the machine-gun downshifts that only the PDK-S can provide.

It's the same reason that some will prefer the mid-engined setup of a Cayman, like the GT4 (or the upcoming GT4 RS) over a rear-engined 911, like the GT3, even though the GT3 will put down a faster lap time.
