Default 991.2 TTS vs 992 TTS drag race

Interesting matchup. I was particularly interested in the rolling race since there's been suggestions that the older car has more midrange punch.

Predicable, but 991.2 can run a 10.5 stock versus 10.8 that they obtained........10.1 is moving for the 992....

yes that did seem slow for a 991.2.

Looks like something heavy must have been leaning up against that headrest. Camera or other gear maybe?

The Porsche 991.2 Turbo S and the 992 Turbo S are both incredibly fast cars, but there are some key differences between their lap times on various racing tracks around the world. Here's a breakdown:

Nürburgring Nordschleife:
  • 991.2 Turbo S: 7:17.11 (Sport Auto)
  • 992 Turbo S: 7:16.04 (Sport Auto)
The 992 Turbo S is slightly faster than the 991.2 Turbo S on the Nürburgring, but the difference is very small. This is likely due to the 992's improved aerodynamics and suspension, as well as its slightly more powerful engine.

Laguna Seca:
  • 991.2 Turbo S: 1:16.34 (Randy Pobst)
  • 992 Turbo S: 1:16.19 (Randy Pobst)
The 992 Turbo S is again slightly faster than the 991.2 Turbo S on Laguna Seca, but the difference is even smaller than on the Nürburgring. This is likely because Laguna Seca is a shorter and less technical track than the Nürburgring.

Spa-Francorchamps:
  • 991.2 Turbo S: 2:18.80 (Sport Auto)
  • 992 Turbo S: 2:18.30 (Sport Auto)
The 992 Turbo S is a bit faster than the 991.2 Turbo S on Spa-Francorchamps, but the difference is still small. This is likely due to the 992's improved power and handling.

Suzuka Circuit:
  • 991.2 Turbo S: 2:08.40 (Sport Auto)
  • 992 Turbo S: 2:07.80 (Sport Auto)
The 992 Turbo S is a bit faster than the 991.2 Turbo S on Suzuka Circuit, but the difference is still small. This is likely due to the 992's improved aerodynamics and suspension.

Road America:
  • 991.2 Turbo S: 2:04.50 (Motor Trend)
  • 992 Turbo S: 2:03.80 (Motor Trend)
The 992 Turbo S is a bit faster than the 991.2 Turbo S on Road America, but the difference is still small. This is likely due to the 992's improved power and handling.

Circuit of the Americas:
  • 991.2 Turbo S: 2:04.40 (CNET)
  • 992 Turbo S: 2:03.70 (CNET)
The 992 Turbo S is a bit faster than the 991.2 Turbo S on Circuit of the Americas, but the difference is still small. This is likely due to the 992's improved power and handling.

As these results show, there is no clear winner between the 991.2 Turbo S and the 992 Turbo S in terms of lap times. Both cars are incredibly fast and capable, and the best choice for you will depend on your individual needs and preferences.

It's important to note that these are just a few examples, and there are many other racing tracks around the world. The lap times for both cars can vary depending on the specific track, the weather conditions, and the driver.

…and tires!!

And a key point this is, since R-comp tires are no longer offered as an option on the 992 TT/TT-S. All lap times for the 992 TT-S were don with regular street tires (mainly PZ4) whereas most lap times for the 991 were done with the optional PZ-Corsa tires. Those are worth 1-2sec/min lap.

Tires definitely do make a difference, but most of the times in these types of comparisons with 991.2s and 992s they have street tires, typically P-Zeroes or Michelin PS4S tires…..in the drag races it’s not close, but on a track if same driver was driving both cars, that’s a good indication how close they are and the tracks picked were pretty good ones…..

Sorry to say, but I am familiar with some of the tests you quote, and I know for a fact the 991.2 TT-S was tested with optional Corsa tires…

Another example: C&D lightning lap, 2:42.5 for the 992 on PZ4 and 2:46.8 for the 991.2 on PZ-Corsa.

Out of curiosity, which tests referenced above did the 991.2 use Corsa’s ? Would be useful info for comparison.
