Default Porsche is Overcharging for Turbo S?

Hello everyone!

This is my first post and soon I will deposit for my first Porsche!
I've been looking to purchase 992 TTS for a while now but I'm still waiting on sport and lightweight package and I have done several build and I think I settled on aero kit inspired by 991.2 exclusive series.

However! few days ago I decided to build TT for fun just to see the price difference, because as per my understanding if you want a base car and tick all the options then you must as well get the more expensive "base" car for example 991.2 Carrera S vs GTS.

I specced the Turbo like a base Turbo S which are:
Exclusive Design fuel filler cap
Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control Sport (PDCC)
Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB)
LED Matrix main headlights incl. Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus)
Adaptive Sports seats Plus, electrical 18-ways with memory package
Carbon matt Interior Package

After all are done I'm still around 18,000 dollar behind Turbo S, did I miss any option or Porsche is charging 18k for tune?

Funny as I am on the same bandwagon as you are. This is a lot to pay for the exclusivity of the Turbo S badge which I plan to remove any way lol.
I have asked the question to ByDesign tuner (see other post) and he seems to believe that the turbos might be different. I would certainly hope so but this has not been confirmed yet.
I understand some will say that there will be less Turbo S on the market and they will sell higher in the future. I did a quick analysis on autotrader and it seems to be true the S model commands a higher asking price.

There are some other items included with the "S".....

Adaptive Sport Seats
Carbon Fiber Inlays
and of course the extra HP and Torque
there may be others I've missed.

But yeah, I think the "S" is stretching in price a lot know a days.....considering that the performance between the non-S and S is within a tick or two in the 991.X generation and probably
the same for the 992 gen.

If I spec a 911 Turbo with the following options, which are standard on the Turbo S:
  • PDCC $3170
  • PCCB with Yellow Calipers $9650
  • Center-lock Wheels $3620
  • PDLS+ Matrix LEDs $2000
  • 18-way Seats $1150
  • Matte Carbon Fiber Trim $2100
I get a MSRP of $193,840, compared to $204,850 for the Turbo S base car. So you are paying $11,000 or so for the additional horsepower and torque (whether it is from a tune or from a different turbocharger setup).

For the 991.2 generation, I believe there are actually twice as many Turbo S as Turbos produced for the US market. I guess at these price points, customers are willing to pay the $15 or 20k difference and just get the top end model.

On the 991.1 series the Turbos were the same from the non-S to the S. So the tune was the only item that contributed to the additional HP. On the 991.2 series that changed - the turbos are different from non-S to S (99% sure). The 992 non S is a decent value given that its got the same HP as the outgoing 991.2 TTS and is cheaper than the 991.2 S was. I'd be torn. I like the PCCB's (although not a deal breaker) but dont necessarily need all the other stuff. I'm at least until next summer away from getting one and may go non-S. Keep it for a while and then tune it to go beyond the S. I actually prefer the non-S wheels (on the website - havent seen any in the flesh) and saving $20-30K may be nice..

Default For me Non S is the only way

I plan on tracking regularly and don’t need the hassle or cost of having PCCB’s. At some point it will be tuned but as it stands if I get a Turbo (non S) it will be the quickest car I’ve ever owned so it’s all good...

PORSCHE OVERCHARGES FOR EVERYTHING, PERIOD. How else could you add 58k in options to a car that is fairly loaded, but I keep coming back for some reason, oh yea it's bulletproofed

after spending $193K who in their right mind doesn’t go for an extra 70hp at a 5% bump ? In CA that’s half the tax. Apparently 2/3 of customers agree. Don’t cheap out at the finish line.

What is the earliest build one has been able to get for a "Turbo"? The difference to get your hands on the car much sooner and have a higher resale may make it a wash. At that point is a preowned Turbo S, if any are out there, make more sense than a new Turbo when they do start showing up?

Porsche options are a bargain compared to what Ferrari and McLaren charge.

I agree with you however none of the manufacturers you mentioned charge around $14k for a tune.

Do we know if it is a tune or are there hardware differences? It was just a tune in the 991.1 but the turbochargers are different in the 991.2.

True. Instead, McLaren charges $3,500 for a 12 o'clock stripe on a steering wheel and Ferrari charges $30k for paint.
