I thought the same thing...apples to oranges - how can one compare a Tesla to a non-electric Porsche?

This car is very nice, but at $214k specced to my tastes, it is too expensive. Hard to justify paying $100k more for a car that will get beaten at the lights by a Tesla.
It’s quite expensive, but it’s just not the same market at all. Look over at mclarenlife, lambopower, and f-chat where you'll have to pay still more money to match or exceed 911 turbo performance. It honestly doesn’t much matter. Folks that buy $200+k exotic and GT cars just get a Tesla too if they want one.

The upcoming $200k+ Tesla Roadster could be a very interesting competitor to exotics and the top 911s if they can get the heat management figured out. I’ll be interested to see how it ends up. That excellent 2.3-2.4 second 0-60 figure is with battery thermal pre- and post-conditioning - you cant just do it at any old stoplight on the fly. Hopefully that changes with their Roadster.

You own a Turbo. Have you ever thought "I like it, but this thing could be faster". Maybe you have, and maybe you're crazy

At a certain point does it matter? If a car is sub 3 sec to 60mph, it really only matters on paper if another is slightly faster. I'm guessing the TTS will be in the 2.5 sec range anyway.

There are a number of reasons why one would not want to own a Tesla, so I'm not sure a couple of ticks make up for it - cheaper or not.

My wife drives a Tesla S 100D and before I got it Tesla actually lent me a P90D (ludicrous mode etc, 0-60 in 2.6secs) for a month as our car build was delayed - and I hammered the hell out of that car at every opportunity. The Tesla Model S are great vehicles or spaceships but they are a one-trick pony - you get the thrill of acceleration but not the joy of driving - everything is silent, serene, numb. You feel the hugeness and the staggering weight at all times. I have almost persuaded my wife to switch the Tesla to the Taycan in a year or so (she wants an electric car).

exactly! i love my model x and even traded my model x to the newer faster model x recently. it's great as a daily driver especially my daily commute is only around 50miles, autopilot is heaven when it comes to LA stop and go traffic or long drives, plus it is almost or even just as fast as my .2 tts 0-60mph. but when it comes to satisfying my need for speed, tesla's just can't give that feeling you get when driving a proper sports car.

Or just get the best of both worlds.

A Tesla Model 3 Performance for 56K, and a 991.2 GT3 for 150K. You can enjoy 3.2 sec 0-60, M3P is much more tossable than Model S or 911 Turbo, and has adaptive cruise control and other goodies for daily driving, while you still have an amazing GT3 for weekend fun, long trips, and the track!

Drag race between a taycan turbo S and the 992 turbo S. Basically both are neck and neck at the first meters and after that the 992 slowly pulls away.

I'm not surprised. Also would not be surprised if Porsche engineered it that way.

Nevertheless, the clinical way the Taycan accelerates - zero drama and no effort...it kills the buzz for me.

Loved the way the YouTuber placed serene sounds (basically almost total silence) when they showed the Taycan before the launch.
