In most of my adult life, I stubbornly resisted the idea of buying a new car.
Close friends have probably heard me hundreds of times rant about how pointless it is to buy any car new, and how much more interesting it is to build something unique instead of buying something ready-made.
Over the last 10–15 years though, I’ve been extremely lucky to spend a lot of time around modern GT cars as part of my day job. Every year I became more impressed by how capable they actually are. Working at the Nürburgring and helping people experience these cars on track, it’s very common to see the same pattern: someone drives a GT3 or GT4, gets out completely blown away… and a few months later they send a photo of the one they just bought!
For a long time I thought I would stay on the other side of that equation but eventually... I got to taste my own medicine.
I'm not sure what happened first, burn out from the project car life or me actually being brainwashed from experiencing daily the amount of easily accessible performance Porsche packs in these cars.
When the opportunity appeared, I reluctantly spec'd a car. I probably spent less than 15 minutes in the configurator because I assumed it wouldn’t actually happen (allocation / timing / budget etc).
Then the moment came to lock the order... and I nearly cancelled it.
But after saying so many times that this is probably the ultimate dual-use car, I felt like I had to put my money where my mouth is.
So last weekend, at the Nürburgring 2026 season opener, I had here my own 992.2 GT3:
Why I did it?
Because I genuinely believe this is one of the best production cars currently available if you actually use your cars.
Drive to the track.
Cross half of Europe for a Trackday.
Do hundreds of laps at the Nürburgring.
Very few cars can do all of that this well.
The spec is relatively simple, Oak Green wing car, but with a couple of options I personally consider important (even though they’re not always the most resale-friendly choices).
I have always been a forum person, loved reading actual owners discuss their cars in depth more than the superficial impressions and spec-list conversations in real life and/or social media.
Years ago I documented my air-cooled 911 ownership on Pelican, and I always said that if I ever bought a modern Porsche I’d share the experience as well.
Hence here I am, sharing with you a bit of my journey.
I’ll update this thread with more thoughts about the car, a few key mods I believe are much needed, trips, Nürburgring laps and hopefully some Trackdays across Europe.
Because the main reason for getting the car was/is to drive a bit more in 2026.
And if you enjoy Nürburgring onboards, here’s the first chill sunset lap from the season opener.
You're the kind of guy who deserves an allocation. Congrats on the new car!
Proper spec. Proper use.
What mods are you thinking? Please use this as your build thread.
Welcome to RL!
As a side note, in the thumbnail the car has a German number plate, but in the video itself it has a Bulgarian one, yet the language on the car's instrument panel is Greek (I think). I was getting more and more confused.
@Butzi@MartinHines I do come from a media background so this is put together with... a bit more love than a first lap onboard really deserves!
@HowIsMyDriving it is a GoPro mounted to the cage indeed (but I think a 9 or 10?). I do have a love/hate relationship with them because of how unreliable they are (heat/SDs/battery issues).
As for track insurance, especially for the 'Ring, these days it is almost impossible (except specialized Trackday insurance that is an option if you track something expensive like an RS and you plan to leave little margin).
@Wilder definitely alignment, most probably wheels/tires, assuming I can drive it as much as I would like. Will try to keep a log here of all important changes.
@FlatSix_MM Good eye! All correct. Originally from Greece and although I call the 'Ring home my plan it to spend more time with this car around other -equally cool or... dare I say cooler- European tracks.
