Porsche Dashcam
#2
I got it on my RS (wired for Porsche dash cam on spec) and had dealer install the front and rear cameras upon delivery. Can’t get the app to work so taking it back to the dealer to initialize the settings again and get it working. More to come when it’s set up properly.

I would research the steps involved post delivery to install this before ordering. A lot of interior trim pieces have to come off. A pillar, headliner, mirror housing, rear quarter and rear headliner all have to be opened up. Unfortunately it isnt wired up all the way from factory. Silly if you ask me.

The only way I was able to get the app to work on my Porsche dashcam was to turn on airplane mode and enable wifi every time I want to connect. Before that I was having a lot of issues, but it seems to be working normally now.

I have the prep, but unused.
Have a Racelogic VBox with front and rear camera and set it so it starts recording (Laptimes) over 30 MPH on an SD card.

For folks that want a well-integrated dashcam I would get one of the FitCamX units (or equivalent on AliE) that snap directly on to the OEM mirror housing. I use one and you can’t even tell there is a dashcam installed. It comes with plug and play harnesses (no “prep for dashcam” needed).

Just to add to the scenario pool... I have the Porsche front dash cam in my RS now. That car was not wired from the factory. Had the dealer do the install and wiring -- they actually told me that the hours to do that job were the same as the book quoted for fitting the camera when the factory wiring was already provisioned.
Getting the camera and the app to sync was a major PITA for the first time. In retrospect, I think that it might have been easier done away from home and any other WiFi network that the phone knows about and tries to auto-connect. Once it was done though, it's been pretty well behaved since. And that includes using it for the Track Precision App (TPA). Although I should say that while the camera images showing up in TPA seems reliable, whether or not TPA actually grabs video or not and is stable enough to do that and complete a full DE session is a bit of a lottery...works more often than not but still less than "reliable".
Oh, and my other experience which differs from some other reports is this: the dash cam app and TPA both seem to be easier to work with when the phone connects via WiFi to the car (so NOT using USB cable). Others say the reverse, but wireless works better for me.
