@C.J. Ichiban ^ this is making a compelling argument for this car for me. I’m still hesitant because I don’t need another car that doesn’t have back seats for the kids.

Every time I get back in the R now after driving the 992 Touring the R feels "loose" and sloppy...which i know it's not...just speaks to how sharp the 992 really is. I LOVE the R and always will but it is pretty incredible what driving a 992 GT3 can do to your feelings when driving anything older. Even the best of the older

I think this is really well said. When I dropped off our new to me 2023 GT3 Touring manual, a friend of mine gave me a ride home in his 997 GT3 and while it is an awesome car it felt so loose and shifts seemed so distance from each other compared to the 992 GT3....for those of you who have driven all of these cars of course you know what I mean and you expect it. But I am relatively new to GT cars, not Porsches in general, and I couldn't believe how different the two cars felt. And the 992 Touring is still seriously raw and exciting, just way more solid and refined feeling.

This is why people are gushing over the ST. I’ve driven the R, 4.0 and ST and not all back to back but close enough. The ST takes peak 992 GT3 and turns it up a notch. It’s more than the sum of its parts.
I would hear that you can’t wind out the 992 like the 997 and that’s not true, it makes basically the same power and the weight is only a 150lbs or so more. The 992 really is a fantastic car, so much better than the 991. There I said it.

Nope. I’ve owned them all. 992 GT3 is the best one out of the three. I know this based on the fact that people who have or do owned all three, are selling or have sold the other two but are keeping the 992. There might be an exception to that, but it seems to be the case so far.

And anyway, it’s not a popularity contest. Doesn’t matter what other people like, what matters is what YOU like.

There is certainly a segment of people who flat out prefer the 991, but some of the folks who prefer the 991 do so because they weren’t offered decent terms (or any terms at all) on a 992.

That said, I tend to take people at face value when they said they prefer the 991. I don't think jealousy plays a role here - anyone who can afford a 991 GT3 can afford the ADM on a 992 and there are plenty of low mile CPOs on the market.
There are legitimate reasons to prefer the 911, for me a lot of them are aesthetic and how important that is depends on the person.
Personally, I'm waiting for the right car to come along and I might consider the move to 992 despite some misgivings I have about it. None of the GT3 generations are perfect, but they're all great, so it's not a bad deal either way.

I suspect there are a lot of people on the 992 page that owned a 991 and are perfectly happy with the move. I'd even wager it's a majority.

I currently have a 991.2 3RS and a 992 GT3. Current market price for both is about the same. Lap time on track with equal tires is also about the same.
Subjectively, I usually like the 991 better. A very accomplished pro driver drove them both back to back on track, and told me he also likes the 991 better, would pick it 10 times out of 10, "it's just better" he said.

I wouldn't discount the fact that the 992 is kind of polarizing for some people. As you know I've owned a couple, so it's nothing that would be a dealbreaker for me, but it's not all roses with the 992 for some people.

Human nature is what it is, but I think it's a little silly to think 991 owners are jealous paupers. The 992 isn't *that* much more than a 991 Touring, for instance, and in some cases it's the same price.
