Default 992 gt3 , should i switch ?

Hey Guys,

I own a 718 gts 2018 model, daily drive it to work and from any place a to b. super happy with it and it has 40,000kms on it now. I'm recently thinking to upgrade to a 992 gt3 cuz i can afford it and we only live once right ? i want your advice and honest thoughts about it.
- i will be daily driving the car - how comfortable is it? compared to my current car?
- i live in Dubai, roads are pretty good everywhere. shouldn't be an issue for driving comfort in terms of watching for holes etc.. given that there is only a sport chasis on the gt3.
- storage: should be similar to my current car right?
- service fees: how more expensive will it be than my current ?
- should i consider a gt4rs instead ? just a thought.

any other thoughts are welcome. thank you so much.

Moe.

I equally live in Dubai, tbh it depends on your needs. I've initially considered the GT3, and I do dd my current (C2S) car. The reason I went with the latter was the additional comfort and the 4-seats, as I take my kids sometimes with me. GT3 is bonkers sure, but if you don't track it you'll enjoy a low-end torquier engine in the dense traffic of Dubai. My 2c.

Hey! thanks for your reply. Yes i would be looking to track the car, i've already tracked my 718 4 times in the last 2-3 years. So let's say ill track the gt3 twice a year ? i'm single without kids so that's easier to have as a daily car i guess. would you know anyone in Dubai who offers race track lessons?

Ah then the GT3 makes sense for you. Not sure about track lessons, maybe try the autodrome staff? I'm sure they can point you in the right direction.

A daily with only 2 track days per year, I'd probably consider a 992 Turbo or Turbo S before the GT3. More track less daily? GT3

A little nit picking, but by any 'normal' definition, any/all variant's of the 718/992 platforms are considered 'sports' cars, lol. Sure, some variants are more 'sporty' than others but compared to any sedan or SUV there are fundamental aspects of the 718/992 platform (lower weight, lower CG, 'mid' engine, etc) that render them superior in terms of essential dynamics and fundamental physics. We are all blessed to be contemplating such 'choices'.

I had 718 GT4 and whilst it was excellent, the GT3 is on a whole different level. It has a different driving feel, more muscular and the extra power is apparent. The space in the back is welcome too. If you can change I would do so without hesitation. I track x3-4 yearly and otherwise drive for fun, in my world the GT3 is the perfect sports car.

GT3 is for two types of buyers — track rats and posers. If you don’t track, or if you track minimally, the GT3 is mostly just a C&C show car.

I have a 981 and 992GT3 (also have a 991.2 but that's besides your question).

Totally different cars in just about every respect.
Mid-engine vs rear
Turbo vs NA (I believe the 2018 718GTS is turbo)
Different suspensions
way different aero
The GT3 would be more prestigious if you are into that sort of thing.
Totally different driving dynamics because of the above. You really need to drive each.

I don't think the GT3 is a good daily driver at all. It's harsh, noisy, manual blocks the cup holder, LWBs are a pain to get and out of, no back seats, really bad clearance etc. PERFECT for me. But if it's your only car, you probably would prefer the 718.

For the street, I prefer to drive my 981 Boxster S. It is so much friggin fun to drive! For the track, the GT3 is it and frankly has exposed the weakness of my 991.2 and 981. I still love them though. You can't go wrong either way.

After all that.....I'd get the GT3.

The 992 GT3 would be a perfect daily driver on good roads.
Each generation of GT3 has become more and more street friendly. (not saying that's a good thing)
It's roomier than the 718 and has more power. Also larger and more complex.

The GT4RS is sports car perfection, but probably not a good daily driver for the vast majority of people.
Although you will be smiling for hours every time you drive it.

^ I have to say, I find it hard to believe that anyone can use the words "GT3" and "perfect daily driver" in the same sentence.

Now I haven't driven a GT3, but isn't the whole point of the car being that it's not supposed to be a perfect daily driver?

I would agree with @Tupper . Good daily driver and GT3 should not be part of the same sentence. I can say each GT3 version has become easier to drive on the streets. I still have my 996 GT3, but it only lives on the track.
The 992 GT3 is acceptable on the street and is much better than my 996 GT3. Carbon buckets are a pain to get in/out and definitely not wife approved. The car is low and very stiff. You feel every bump in the road.
That said I enjoy driving the 992 GT3 in town and put up with the inconveniences.

I will give my two cents, I track my GT3, I can also daily it too If I do not track, I would love the backroads weekend drives too and the GT3 is perfect for that. Categorizing people into posers or track rats is really silly as the touring is a GT3 without a wing for backroad driving or whatever, so I am not entirely sure how the touring buyers get a pass in essentially the same car.

If you buy buckets, like Cup 2s, and live in areas with bumpy roads the 992 GT3 is not an ideal daily car. Get 18-ways, use PS4 tires or similar and you have a more livable ride with more storage in the rear seats vs 2 trunks.

Having said that the last 718 GTS I drove (4.0) rode terribly on Sausalito area roads and I have head the same of the GT4, so you may not notice.

And comfort is very subjective …
