I may disagree with you on this. I'm not sure all 911 buyers want steering as fast, precise and responsive as a GT3 with the ride quality associated with ball joints (although the true driving enthusiasts would surely welcome it)..

All that stuff has to do with the ratio in the steering rack and lack of rubber in the suspension. Those things can be changed independently of the double wishbones. Double wishbones on the Carrera could be just as comfy or moreso, but it would resist understeer much better when driving in a spirited way. And tire wear would be better without the need for an aggressive alignment.

Yeah, there is really no downside to wishbones suspension for the driver, if the driver cares about driving dynamics. Only downside is cost, and perhaps complexity (in terms of maintenance of repairs down the road).

Probably never, its much more expensive and complex to manufacture than a strut suspension. Porsche has done a very good job of maximizing the performance of the strut . Look at the 991 GT3RS &GT4RS. The cost/benefit ratio in the std 911 line doesn't make sense.carl

While wishbones are a big benefit on the GT3, that benefit is better control over alignment over the range of motion (dynamic camber/toe), in a plush car there is more suspension movement and so intentional engineering of the camber/toe curve over that range with wishbones is even more beneficial.

The latest miata, which has a way too soft suspension stock, does well with its front double wishbones. https://www.autoblog.com/2020/04/30/...ion-deep-dive/
