Make sure you have the latest version of Pandora. Not sure that will fix the issue but the carplay app and the mobile app are basically different applications. If that doesn't work, launch/kill/relaunch the pandora app. Waze has a similar issue and I often have to kill it and restart it.

Burning Brakes
I have had some luck deleting all connections and starting from scratch.
- iPhone > Settings > General > Car Play > select car > Forget This Car
- iPhone > Settings > General > Bluetooth > select car > Forget This Device (this may get wiped by step 1)
- PCM > Forget the iPhone (don't recall the exact steps offhand)
- Add CarPlay via PCM/phone
