CTEK Battery Tender 12-volt connection
Folks,
Just an FYI. A much questioned topic is the workings of a battery tender and the cigarette lighter type connection (12-volt). Wanted to report that the CTEK lithium fully auto tender works perfectly with the passenger footwell socket. Note: The tender doesn't come with the adapter for that connection but I used one from an older CTEK w/o issue.
I'm not a big battery tender guy as I DD my GT3 however with the cost of the lithium battery I figure if I'm going on a vacation or whatever it's not a bad move to put it on the tender.
Here's the model I'm using:
Best,
Tim

I have used the socket in the passenger footwell or the cigarette lighter in the console for more than 15 years on various Porsches. Never a problem, no damage pinching the cord. I am careful and lay the cord at the back of door corner where the radius is. I like this because it unplugs fast in a second and off I go. its my habit now.

So for clarity, even though the white-labeled Porsche branded CTEK charger that the dealership provides with 992 GT3s cannot be plugged into the passenger footwell and must be gator-clipped directly to the battery (as I've read in other threads), the one OP linked to does?
I'm not a fan of taking off the cowl to keep the car on tender, so it seems like I'll have to shell out for yet another tender.

Thanks for the share @tstafford Updated mine!
Ive been shutting the cord in the door for 20 years with no issues. Always bends in the same spot

So you do it after every drive?? I thought it was needed only if you don't drive for an extended period of time? Or is it just better for the longevity of the battery if you do it that often?

He is summarizing a process to effectively get the tender to work - apparently the car must be running for some period of time in order to properly recognize the OEM-branded CTEK tender if plugged into the 12V outlet, rather than just being able to plug a tender into the 12V outlet at any time with the 991s. This processed has been summarized in other threads, too. I haven't tried it myself yet (just using the damn gator clips). Will try this weekend and report back.

Tried this and it doesn't seem to work.

I have experienced times when my charger shows an error (C-Tek MXS-10) when charging my Porsche. I always connect the charger directly to + battery terminal and - ground point.
I have found that if the vehicle is still 'awake' when connected, the charger shows an error. If I leave the vehicle with the front trunk open until until the trunk light goes off (and all systems are off) before connecting the charger, it works.
Conversely, I have read that if you connect the charger to the footwell socket after the vehicle has gone to sleep, the socket may be disconnected from the battery. But that is just from forum reports.
The two ways seem conflicting to me, but who knows what electrickery goes on behind the scenes.
