Fed raising rates? Ok, now I better get a home now before my payments are higher later! Better buy that new car now or else it’ll cost you more later!
Thats not how it works economically. House/car prices and interest rates in this case are inversely proportional. As rates rise people have less buying power and there is less competition for houses and prices come down. We have seen a house explosion due to cheap money (and a pandemic too).

As for buying a car id wait if you can. we are already seeing some nascent signs of potential price softening as ADMs are coming down a little and used cars are sitting on lots.

I’m aware of how it normally works; nothing is normal anymore.

I think it is pretty close. 2004-06 CGT's average sale price was ~$500K. Current average ~$2 million. Porsche Carrera GT Market - CLASSIC.COM

16 years of stock market growth (S&P 500) 1200 (2005) to 4500 (2022) = 16 years CGT. Market might be ahead if you factor insurance, registration, maintenance, repairs, etc.

The last 12 months has doubled the price of the CGT, so it may be short lived. That being said, I am impressed with the CGT's 'value' currently. Is there a tax liability if you sell your CGT?

Yes, IRS does impose capital gains taxes on personal vehicles

Not necessarily, I would say your are inline with stock market returns. $500,000 to $2M over 16 years is a 9.05% annualized return (if you include property taxes, maintenance, etc; then your'e well below 9%)

If you count dividend return, cgt cant beat s&p.

Whoever bought a Carrera GT in 2005 for 500k did both. They bought the car and were invested in the market.

these hypotheticals are silly.

And, you’d have to want a CGT. They heard crickets when they came out.

People are dying, families will go homeless, wives will lose husbands and fathers will lose sons. GT3 prices should be the last thing to link this horrid event to.

this news got me worried about the chaos, death, and all the negatives we have learned about wars in past....
I don't wish to get a cheaper car buy causing havoc to human life.

Its the discussion I am currently having with my kids (they are teenagers)
The fact that we are relatively untouched by human tragedy by nature of where we live or who we are born to, versus the fear that people their age are currently feeling half a world away.
This guy scares the bejesus out of me and while I am not a worrier at heart, this recent action, the pandemic and society as a general assures me that we are at an inflection point in human history.
Love the life you live now.
Don't worry about the car price so much. If you can afford, buy it, drive it.
I just talked myself into an RS

Well said Vince. Seeing the tragedy that is ensuing puts things in a very humbling perspective, where we are truly fortunate that our top 'stressor' is what - which color deviated stitching we ought to click on a Porsche configurator?

Congrats on your decision to go the RS-route - ride her with joy for years to come in good health and peace - two dimensions we often take for granted and the last couple of years (and days!) have hopefully made us all further appreciate.

u are right...

======

some cars are CARS: u know like transportation. then u buy it b/c you NEED IT.

some cars are TOYS: stuff that's frivolous and kind of like wiping you rear with 100 bills. you do not need it. NO ONE NEEDS A PORSCHE. a corolla is a GREAT car. if u have to analyze for more than a few min... it is best you don't buy the TOY....
