Default Exhaust options for 992 GT3/RS

Seems like right now it GMG and JCR. Curious if GMG will just use their Speedster version. Sharkwerks? AWE?

I asked sharkwerks back in May and below is their response:

Hi Mark we'll try to look into it but it's going to be hard to match any NON OPF car and not have drone/CELs.

Hey guys –

I have a 992 GT3 inbound in September and want to fix the pathetic exhaust note. Are you planning to develop a center muffler delete? One of my close friends has a 991.1 GT3 with your center muffler delete and it is the best sounding Porsche I have ever heard.

My GT3 will have the same engine and exhaust as the 991 Speedster. It doesn’t look like you developed a product for that car. Do you plan to have an exhaust that gets rid of the GPFs also?

Hey.....it was a bit strong I admit that.....but I am not CH or AP with a not so hidden agenda and although I drink the Porsche Kool-Aide by the gallon, I am still critical. I am an actual buyer that put 190k down on the car. That's the way I see it. Of course I recognize we all have different thresholds and opinions and sound is subjective. That's my opinion after driving the Speedster at WOT with PSE engaged (same engine and exhaust system as the 992GT3). I am going to have to fix the exhaust note. The OPF's are regulatory driven and were never intended to be installed by the enthusiasts who design the cars. They rob sound.

PS: I have a 4S Taycan for the weekend as a loaner. I am now an EV fan. It is fast as hell with instant torque. Good for a daily or carting people around in style. It looks fantastic sitting in my driveway too. Exhaust note sucks. lol.

I agree with @subshooter it has the hair dryer asthma sound with the valves closed to my ears. It does sound better when its going fast but alot of folks that have driven it commented that it is quieter outside and louder inside (probably due to a beefed up sound symposer). I think sound symposers are pure bullsh1t. Thats just my opinion.

There is no sound symphonizer, just less sound deadening. NA cars don’t need symphonizers.

Perhaps hold off judgment until you actually drive a 992. The speedster has a lot of sound deadening effect from the soft top over the engine. The exhaust is also slightly different on the 992. Ps. There are plenty of actual buyers here…

Symphonizing sound, as in playing engine noise over the speakers. GT cars don’t do this. Porting sound from the engine bay into the cabin is nothing new, and not a negative IMO.

if you have an exhaust (especially headers or an x pipe) these things add tons of drone. Dozens of people removed it and plugged the diaphragm on the 718. Its a game changer. This is an exhaust thread. Youre gonna need to do this if you want a butter smooth cabin experience without vibrations if you go bananas with exhaust mods. And its called a symposer when it comes off the intake manifold. The electronic ones have a different name, soundaktor (can be disabled by pulling fuse).
also the spyder has a 4.0L flat 6 same as the gt4, which also has this. All the opf cars will have this.

i have a Taycan 4S, absolutely love it. It’s a phenomenal daily as it’s calm, comfortable yet fun to drive. It’s stupid quick for any legal street driving situations that arise. The silence after a hard day at work is wonderful.

as for exhaust options I am very torn. I used to replace all of mine, but in my 16 RS it was a problem as I was pulled off several tracks for sound, so my current RS has remained stock. Once I get 992 will see how it sounds

Agreed, and as you said, it’s only an issue if you modify the exhaust. It’s not a negative on a stock car. I agree the stock 718 4/Spyder doesn’t sound great, but I don’t think the same complaint can be leveled at the 992. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
