Just saw this dealer in Germany trying to flip their Sport Classic before it even arrives. They are asking 600k euros ($612k USD). About double MSRP. Assume this includes the price of the car itself.

Not at all, your money your choice, the reactions are probably a reflection of attitudes towards Porsche pushing "lifestyle" variants at vastly inflated prices - e.g. reaction to corporate cynicism. They said they were going this route several years ago and they executed accordingly.

Keep in mind, there was a time that Porsche made light-weight, no frills sports cars. They now make ever larger porkier ham beasts with interiors little different from Audi or BMW.

If it lights your candle, go out and enjoy it to the max

I suspect that many or most SC customers already have other Porsche sports cars in their garage including those lightweight, no frills models that you refer to.

The GT3 is not lightweight but hardly considered porky. Similarly, the sport classic is heavier but the extra horsepower gives it an even higher power to weight ratio. So the “porkier ham beast” analogy completely misses the mark.

Why would you assume that?

No deception but basically buying a supped up GTS with a ducktail that is a numbered production car with a big sticker price because it's numbered. No thanks, ZERO want here. At least the Speedster had a GT engine.

Let's get real, the only reason the want factor is huge for some people for this car is because it's numbered and has a ducktail.

The car obviously isn't for everyone, but why is it so hard to believe that some actually like the overall package and want one for what the car is? There will certainly be some speculators/flippers however that also applies to pretty much every GT Porsche.

Its definitely an interesting parts bin special. Only real bespoke things are the fenders. Interior is best part, as CXX held these options out of 992 Touring when I tried. Kinda meh overall.

Won't the upcoming ST also be a parts bin special? This seems to be a common practice of Porsche with some of their special/limited models - and there's nothing wrong with it (in my opinion) so long as the final product is well executed.

Was talking to someone about the SC this weekend and he had spoken to Downtown LA Porsche about an allocation - apparently they only got one and they are asking 300k over sticker, the 300k due up front.

IMO, it's a limited market at sticker; at 600k, that's a tough sell.

I think that's a fair point. I guess they'll be using different bins from which to choose its parts and each may appeal to a different buyer (or to the same buyer but for a different purpose).

Only one? Makes me wonder how many of the 1,250 are being allocated to the US. Does anyone know this?

For this type of car, it's typically 40-60% to the US.
