Somewhat scary situation b/c of the 991
This is nothing major, but a somewhat scary situation for me nonetheless. I dropped someone off at the bank and went to park. Right when I was about to turn the car off and get out an unmarked white van pulls up behind me blocking me in. The driver rolled the window down and started yelling at me. I just kept the car running and my eyes ahead looking at them through the mirror.
When I didn't respond they pulled into the space next to me (so I knew I could back out if I had to) and kept yelling. I put my window down and they asked if I wanted to buy some a high end TV they had in the van. They said their boss ordered too many and they wanted to sell them for cash so they could enjoy a night on the town. I declined and they said because I had a nice car they thought I'd appreciate the electronics and asked if I knew about TVs. I told them I did, but was not in the market for one. Then they drove away and onto the highway.
The only other times I've been noticed in the 991 have been people shocked about putting things in the frunk and other car enthusiasts asking about it at gas stations. This one kind of unnerved me since I didn't like the feeling of being trapped and the attention. I figure best case they were selling a stolen TV, worst they figured because of the car and being at a bank I had a lot of cash and they were going to rob/kidnap or try and steal the car.
Sometimes I wish I could push a button and make the car look like a nondescript vehicle. Going through that makes me more hesitant to take it out as a daily driver.

The white van selling stereo and TV equipment scam has been around forever. I was first approached by a similar white van in the 1980s. It must be effective, or they wouldn't keep doing it.
Have you considered arming yourself? A handgun fits nicely in the door pocket of the 991.

Never had that sort of problem, thankfully. Maintaining situational awareness is essential.
When I drove a Corvette several years ago I had three different people in one month ask me (I was at a gas station, topping off the car) if I was interested in starting my own business (AMWAY). Guess I looked young for my age and they assumed I needed extra income...

I don't think they deliver, since typically they sell you an empty box.
I really don't think having a shoot-out in the parking lot is the solution. Let them take the car if that's what they want. You can get another one.
I remember these same guys trying to sell me a set of speakers in the 70s. I'm amazed that they're still in business, although they've probably gotten a newer van since then...
