Great win for the LMP1 car (2) - perseverance, determination and skill rewarded, also a great car.

The mid-engined RSR was unimpressive in qualifying, was 4th in GTEpro (the other works car did a widowmaker) and was nowhere in GTEam.

Sure its still a work in progress. However, Aston Martin won GTEpro in a thriller and Ferrari did a clean sweep in GTEam - where does this leave the 911...........the sound? as one wag put it, "its the sound of losing" brutal. The RSR got a participation certificate and Porsche are last in the WEC GT Manufacturers Championship.

At the Adac24hr Rennen, the GT3 Rs in SP9 managed two top 20 placings - equally unimpressive.

This is not about BOP. The cars that win have plenty of torque or plenty of displacement or both. The RSR or GT3 R has neither and no amount of BOP will change that, the engine with the pork it has to carry, is not up to the task and competition. Period.

I agree with you, randr. If it wasn't for BOP, Porsche would be out of it completely.

The turbo charged 488 has 610hp while the NA GT3RSR only has 510hp. So even though moving the 911's engine forward helped, there is still quite a power deficit for the Porsche. (there always has been). It's evident on the straight aways.

Turbo charge the RSR and I think Porsche wins the LM-GTE next year.

I'm actually not sure what to think about Aston... On the one hand, they sound good, look good, but I can't shake that feeling that the "Vintage" (yes, a pun) was largely ahead thanks to a very favorable Balance of performance. Hard to tell if it's a new car, all Astons have looked exactly the same for the past 20 years (even more so than 911s!), but you gotta think that the new Spaceship Ford GT should have been the fastest car just on modernity alone... Or the Ferrari if it hadn't been punted.. The mid engine 911 should also have been up there more... Yet what you see at the end is the 2 oldest "tech" cars with front engines... Found it odd.. then again it was an odd race ! ;-) I managed about 20 hours of it straight - thanks to Fox sports go via Fire TV ! Cool tech !

Meh, the 919 is fun to watch, but not remotely related to our cars. Shame Porsche can't seem to win much of anything with the 911 platform these days. I'd much rather see those cars winning than the 919.

Except Porsche was given a BoP weight reduction to offset the power deficiency.

The Corvettes just seem to be running well everywhere. Shame they lost this race due to a dumbass move by the brit in the Aston. Don't understand why a move like that, that directly results in damage costing another driver the race, don't result in a penalty.

^^^the puncture came about when the vette overcooked and ran through the sand trap - always a danger of a puncture after that occurrence. Tough race, I was cheering the Vette on - very intense.

The incident at Arnage was really hard core driving euro style - if you get in the way you will get shunted. Having said that the inside line at Arnage rarely ever works ballsy but stupid. The contact with the vette was left rear btw not left front

What a lot of people missed was corvette went for soft compound tires at the last change whereas AM went for mediums. This was probably a mistake by the Vette team e.g. they tried to get away from the AM, the track was very hot and they rooted their tires - mediums or hards work best on hot tracks.

Unless they discovered that after the race, that's not what they were saying during the race. Left rear was cut when the Aston overcooked the turn trying to make that inside pass, and then turned back onto the track right into the Vette.
