Hi folks, lately I’ve been playing with different sizes and setups of spacers, but today I decided to leave it with NOT spacers at all, in order to feel the advantage of the OEM negative scrub radius , after a fresh alignment , I drove my car on the street, concentrated to feel and compare those parameters that scrub radius affects , like braking performance, as you know negative scrub radius make the car more stable under maximum braking, ABS prefers negative scrub radius. My impression is that the car feels more alive in my hands, and there are more feedback from the steering coming from the road. Absolute absence of squirm on high speed!.
I took some pictures, to show you that narrow body also looks great and beautiful without any spacers because It simplicity. My next setup could be going back to 5mm on all corners, and compare with what I have now, then I’ll decide what setup is better for me.

When I learn a little more about basics of suspension, more I’m afraid to play with spacers, we are messing around with overall car geometrics. I think we have to trust on Porsche engineers who developed these cars using the best possible setup on wheels and Suspension. These videos made by Professor Robert Smitty Smith, from University of California Irvine, are very interesting to watch . shows interesting facts on how small changes on scrub radius and kingpin inclination affects a lot geometric on the car !

I enjoyed the video explanation, particularly the benefit of having a wider track to give the driver more feel while on track. Perhaps I didn’t know why I enjoyed the wider track with spacers from a scientific/engineering perspective, but now I do! I may try a more conservative set up and put my rear 7mm spacers up front and use no spacer one the rear just to see if there is a perceptible difference. Also, if I feel that the 911T becomes squirmy or unpredictable at high speed or under braking I will certainly fo with a smaller front spacer. For now, and as a third car primarily for track days, I really enjoy the added communication I get from a 30mm wider front track. I bought the T for the analog experience, manual, bixenon lights and Bose, that’s it. I really love the feel of driving this light weight sports car! It serves up smiles and is extremely quick around the track. I came from a much heavier E92 M3 with mods and while it was more powerful there is no comparison when it comes to the feel and satisfaction that I get from this 911.

You can get a wider track with new suspension arms without altering scrub radius.

We are still under lockdown but I have OEM 5mm spacers all round and new lower arms for the front ready to go on when I am finally able to get it done.

What about all the guys running aftermarket wheels? Nobody seems to run the stock offsets which is basically like running spacers on stock rims. Are they saying handling is worse with there aftermarket wheels? Are they more for looks than performance?

That is a good question! I’ve noticed that most after market wheels brands use aggressive “positive” bad offset focused to fill the gap fender for looks only . But if you go with a good quality brand, forged, lighter than OEM and using the right ET configuration, results are great ! (keeping in mind that Porsche do NOT recommends to reduce more than 5mm of the OEM negative(-) scrub radio). For example the following ET & Width setup is perfect for the 991.2 in my opinion :
Forged wheels YIDO YP1.2
Front20x9 (ET 45) Rear 20x12 (ET 75)
(Note: 991.2 OEM wheel specs are 20x8.5 ET49Front / 20x11.5 ET76Rear,) This custom setup move wheels outwards equivalent to adding spacers 10mmFront / 7mmRear but only removing little (-) Scrub Radius 4mmFront / 1mmRear. )

I've run my car on track many times with no adverse effects with the spacers. As already mentioned the factory offers spacers as an option.

Are these wheels 20" or 21"?

I'm trying to order new wheels now for my 991.2

Those YIDO are 20x9 front 20x12 rear
I found them in www.wheelfront.com

If you are on the market to buy, you can use the seach tool in www.wheelfront.com putting your car characteristics and you will find many good options, pictures and where to buy.

For example I really like the Forgeline GA1R 20x9 20x12 , fully forged and ET custom made. racing quality And extremely strong and light for the 991.2 .
here are some picts :

That is understandable, there are many options of shapes and quality on the market, in my opinion the best option always is OEM wheels .
