I'm looking at the configurator GTS (2) only costs $8700 more than the 4S
Have not dissected the standard features I think GTS includes more but that'd be the way to get wide body plus RWD.
Back of my mind still thinking about inclement weather but I survived driving S2000 in light snow.

It's interesting all the threads to save 7 pounds with lesser seats and also save money - seems to be pretty prolific to agree with this mentality but the consensus also leans towards AWD which is heavier and more money with little benefit in this car outside of inclement weather which most don't drive in anyways....
Interesting...
The S2000 and M RWD are not competitors to the 911... different leagues of traction and being planted on the road. If you were okay with those cars then RWD is more than sufficient in this car.

Like RODOLFO04 called out, you just can't this much of a deep dish wheel without a wide body. It doesn't help performance at all but it looks great to me!

I don't think you need to worry about the rear engine driving dynamics in the 991 like you used to in older 911's. With the longer wheelbase the handling is very neutral and not snappy like it used to be.
Main con's for AWD are:
Heavier steering
Smaller frunk
More weight
Pro's are that the C4 is def faster than the C2 simply because of the traction and a slightly more balanced weight distribution. Also, dat ***
I don't think you can go wrong with either choice. And to be honest, unless you are seriously pushing the car, I don't think you'll ever notice a difference in day to day use btwn the 2 cars. Or unless you drive a lot in snow/rain.

Yeah, I understand what you are saying. But for me this car isn't about 100% logic, there's a lot that happens at the emotional level, things I just want regardless of the sense of it. Full leather interiors seem to be a commonly expressed example of that here.

that was one thing I hadn't noticed before, until I got the car, and in looks it makes a big difference

Check out the 2 vs 4 experience at the Porsche Experience Center, either Atlanta or Los Angeles. A good way to see which you prefer.
I'll report back.

In the dry, the rear engine layout gives you plenty of grip.
the RWD is still great for normal day to day driving in the wet, but if you want to drive spirited in the wet (or want the wider hips), get the AWD.

Same here. You're not the only one. I told the dealer I wanted a 991.1 C2S with a PDK which they didn't have at the time. They called me 2 weeks later and told me they had a fresh trade in 2014 C4S. I told him no thanks over the phone then a few days later I saw it in person and drove away with it on looks alone if I'm being completely honest. I live in the desert and this car will never see snow and maybe, just maybe rain once or twice a year... maybe. So yes, I too bought the 4 based solely on the wide butt.

I live in Las Vegas, have also owned an S2000. Currently have a Boss 302, Raptor, 2017 Panamera 2, and a 2016 C4S. So I've experienced both RWD and AWD.
I also live in the desert, car rarely sees rain and will never see snow. Bought the car because of the other benefits, mostly looks. I grew up with air cooled 911's with tail lights running the full rear.
Last week I way way way over cooked a freeway offramp corner. The car started a four wheel drift and right as I thought the rear was going to come around on me, and I felt the sweat beading up on my brow, the front wheels bit, and pulled me through, making me look like a pro and leaving me smelling like Chanel No 5.
Once I arrived at my destination I made sure I hadn't soiled myself and thanked the AWD gods.
I enjoy the track, and enjoy hanging the *** end out as much as the next guy, and the new 4 models will let you do it all, but the AWD has performance merit. I lowered mine with techart springs and the AWD plus lower ride gives back the steering feel everyone complains about the 991 not having.
Get the 4S.

Of course, while the 4S shows a faster 0-60 etc, once you're moving and punch it the RWD will be slightly faster due to lower power to weight ratio.
Anyway the cars designed for enthusiasts, GT2/3 are only RWD.

I recently returned a 2015 base C2 PDK that I was leasing after 27 months. I loved that car, but I live in NorCal by the coast. AWD makes sense. I bought a low mileage 2014 base C4 PDK CPO. The difference in the drive is amazing to me. Going thru corners the PSM provides a stability that the C2 didn't have. My wife loves not feeling car sick after an hour on PCH. The grip and feel on the road are noticeable different. That posterior provides more fun per mile. I am very impressed by the road feel of the base C4. I haven't even tried sport mode yet! Yeah, weak sauce I know, but I sure am enjoying my new (to me) C4. It is even better than an already fantastic C2 that I loved. So...in summation, I upgraded from RWD to AWD and I love it.
