Tax (for the short term registration you had for the European delivery). You might want to pay that one. With the "tiny tickets" you might not even get notified in the US.

The city of Cologne has a collection of photos of me in various rental cars as they have speed cameras all over the place that are fairly sensitive (and I'm not), I've never heard from them here, although I had to pay the fees the rental agency charges for an renter address check (they just charge the credit card on file).

Yes, rental car companies are different since you are renting their car, your name is associated with the rental company. The authorities have no paper work to get in contact with you so they go after the rental company who in turn go after you. This happens everywhere including in the US.

In the case of European Delivery, PCNA does not have my credit card. In fact, unlike a rental car , My Porsche is legally owned and registered to me in the country of Germany with my name and address on the registration. That's how the German authorities got my US address and sent me the ticket directly to my home. PAG, PCNA and PORSCHE are not even mentioned on the registration. Even if that was the case, PCNA has no legal mechanism or authority to bill me for a ticket (which I would contest anyway). German authorities have no mechanism of enforcement (I've done a fair amount of research on this). The worse case is that they will deny you access to their country (decline passport etc) but this is only in extreme cases. No country is going to go through that effort for a 20 Euro fine.

Closer to home about 6 years ago, I received a red light ticket camera one state away in the City of Philadelphia (In my Lexus - not Porsche). I was turning right on red when I wasn't allowed to (Apparently I didn't see the sign but no one was on the road at 1 am either). $150 ticket. I blew that one off with no consequence. I just didn't drive that car in Philadelphia again for fear of being booted. State's have reciprocity on paying tickets and their DMVs work together for enforcement. But apparently not on red light camera tickets.

The world is all about the transfer of wealth from one entity to another. Buying any product, social security, taxes, fines, etc....you name it. It is all about the transfer of money. I prefer not to give it up easily.

Doing greater than 30 mph over the limit in VA is a big deal. I was very nice to the officer and he wrote it up as 89 so I was technically only 29 mph over. I had to hire a ticket attorney to contest it and ultimately made it go away for about $250 (no insurance points). Best money I've ever spent and will always remember the day I bought my first Porsche.
In Virginia, it is 20 over, not 30 over (or anything 80 and higher) that is considered reckless driving - and possible jail time.

Interesting and funny thread. I don't have my 4s yet but in my 918 Boxster S, I always used my 9500ix and Waze. Saved my *** numerous times in the 4 years I owned the car. Most of my fun driving was on back roads in NH during off hours like Sunday mornings or late evenings. If it wasn't for my detector and Waze I would have had numerous tickets by now. I plan to use the same combo in my 911. Backroads, it was easy to get to 65-70 in a 40 or for quick 90+ bursts on the highway. No tickets. My recipe is never to drive at a sustained high speed and always use protection.
Once on a highway, I was merging from the left to a new multilane highway. Posted limit 55 and I was doing 75. As soon as I get on the new highway, my passport goes off. Ka band. I slowed to 65 and by then a state trooper had pulled beside me in the middle lane trying to clock me. I refused any eye contact and continued at 65. He sped off doing 80+ for the nearest exit.

And I drove in NZ in a ****ty Corolla wagon the entire length of the north and south islands. Got two tickets in the mail for doing less than 10km over the limit. Paid them both.

To be clear: this isn't a ticket, this is an invoice. You are basically saying you aren't paying an invoice for something that you have requested, wanted to do, used and are now not willing to pay for.

From my perspective, I'd just say, own up to it. Even to the speeding ticket if they ever reach you.

Thanks for the translation. That is weird. I was only in Dresden for 3 hours to replace my wife's iphone at the apple store but we bought it there with our credit card and bought nothing else in the city. I have no idea why we would be invoiced for 22 euros for something which is why I just assumed it was a camera ticket. I can't read German anyway.

You got a license plate valid for a certain amount of time, right? In Germany you pay a yearly tax for running you vehicle - KFZ Steuer. It's based on the displacement, emissions, etc.

I haven't done a European delivery, but I do speak German - at least to the degree of having lived there for the first 36 years of my life ... :-)

That is even weirder. PCNA pays for everything for the logistics of the delivery (including registration, insurance, tags etc). The license plate and registration are valid for 6 months so I'm not sure why I would be getting a tax on my car sent to me in the US.

Yeah, it's a bit weird. I'd talk to PCNA about it.

Do I win anything?

How about 39 miles on the odometer?

Took delivery of a new 991 GT3 outside of Detroit, MI - had winter rubber installed at the dealer.

Flew in and drove back to Chicago.

30 miles in to the journey.

Not bad huh.

Did you win anything? Only if you got a speeding ticket.

Two pieces of advise; 1. Dont go to Virginia if you can help it., if you do get a ticket for going over 80, hire a lawyer. 2, If you want to speed, get a radar detector (Escort or better), even in VA, where the fine for using a detector is < than the hassle of a ticket.

I had bought a used 1999 996 911 Cab in about 2006. I had it for just a few weeks when I decided it was ‘Show Time’! I live in Virginia where speeding penalties are severe. Anything over 80 and you are in deep s***. So I decided to get on I-64 eastbound from where I live. The on ramp is uphill and I figured I could haul a** up the hill, and then when I got on the flat on top of the hill I’d back off and do a little under 80 which would be safe. There are deep ravines between the east and west bound lanes with a turn around every now and then. So I figured my plan was bullet proof. So up the hill on I-64 I went doing about 130 or so. When I reached the top of the hill, in the west bound lane, what do I see but a State Police police patrol car going in the opposite direction. So I stomped on the brakes and as I passed him, I see in my rear view mirror the Trooper totally stomping on the brakes, with the bubble gum lights now turned on, and I go ‘oh sh**, I’m going to jail!’. But lucky me, he’s going too fast to make the only turn around so I’m good! I got off at the first exit, and went back roads to my house. Parked it in the garage and didn’t drive for a month! Which is about the length of time I would have been in the jail had I been caught. A close call for sure. Virginia does not take kindly to those disobeying the law, and ever since then, I play it a lot more safe.

Just drove through VA today, went from Western MD to GA on I-81. Glad I didn't know any better. But day 2 with my car and mostly stayed at 10 over.

And, I was not at all tempted to race an early '80's Camaro with a huge blower!
