Default PSE Value

Forum,
I'm building a 2017 911 on the website and debating to get the PSE or spend the money in other options or just not get it at all. Without any real feedback from true owners I'm soliciting the true Porsche drivers. I don't want to just trust the Dealers whom are just trying to make profits.

My question, Is the PSE worth the money and does it provide a noticeable drastic sound difference on a 2017 911 C2 coupe. Thanks and looking forward to receiving your feedback.

I have an incoming 991.2 C2 MT and I ended up with it on the order. I currently have an M4 and have modified it so the exhaust valves are always open which makes it fairly loud and to my liking. I did not want to risk getting the 991.2 and it being as muted as the M4 with valves shut so I bit the bullet. Interested to hear others chime in.

Only you can answer the question as to whether or not PSE is worth the $3K to you. It certainly makes a significant sound difference which some like but others not so much. PSE is one of the many Porsche options which basically will not add any value at trade-in, with the possible exception that it may help you sell the car faster. In my case I ordered the option and would do so again.

I have no direct experience with the new turbo'd motors, but all my prior water cooler Porsches had PSE. They have all been great.

On the 991.2 I think the duel pipe, center mounted, exhaust tips look the bomb. Adding PSE, after your factory build, becomes very-very expensive (becuase of all the turbo plumbing and rear valence). If you want it, do it now, don't wait.

For me, it is one of the 4 necessities in a modern Porsche. Both my 981 and my 991.2 C4 (on order) have it.

For $3k, I recommend that you go to a dealership and drive one with and without (or on and off). You need to get the engine warmed up and get in on the throttle to really appreciate it though.

I've driven the 991.2s and IMHO, PSE is a must.....and it still doesn't sound as good as my 981.

I think PSE sounds really good; I got my car with it. However I am still upgrading the exhaust because I want "more". So if you are planning at all to do an aftermarket exhaust, you might want to instead consider getting the cheaper standard offering, since you are pulling it off anyway.

that was the case with the .1 but with the .2 there is also the rear valence to consider. Objectively with the valence it's a better value on the new car.

The wide quad pipes look really great too tho.

I upgraded my 2014 C2S after purchase and it is well worth it. If you plan on an after market option than go with the stock exhaust and upgrade to your flavor of choice. As none of the exhaust mods add much on the performance scale it is almost like stereo speakers,...go with what sounds best to you. There are many YouTube videos with the different after market and PSE exhausts which should help you with your decision.

Unless you have plans to add an aftermarket exhaust, get it. You can blow money on lots of options that you will appreciate far less.

Love it on the .1, hate it on the .2. If I order a .2, the only reason I'd do PSE is if I decided to do the PowerKit, as it comes with it. Otherwise, I would not do PSE on a car I specced. I think the .2 sounds better with the standard exhaust.

Go listen to them both and decide which you prefer.

The .1 and .2 PSE are two entirely different beasts.

I passed on PSE with no regrets and not due to $ constraints. Love the sound of the engine without it. I do not care for the gurgles and burbles.

A decided majority here enjoy it and consider it a must have. Just thought I'd give you an alternate view.

Check out Nick Murray's video on his .2 w/o PSE. I have PSE on mine and feel it's a must have. If you get the car and later decide to put PSE in, retrofitting the car is very expensive because of how tightly everything is packed in there.

Most of the aftermarket exhausts sound pretty close to PSE IMHO for the .2 as the factory version is essentially straight through piping.
