Default 991.2 GTS - Manual

Hi all,

New to the 991 forum--thanks for all the insights and sharing of knowledge and info here.

Considering a 991.2 GTS in manual and soon realized that there wasn't a ton of media coverage on the cars nor are any readily available to test drive since the first US cars are ordered cars which are only now just landing.

Does anyone know if ths 7-speed manual is the same unit as in the 991.2 C2S? Any changes at all in the box, the throw, the physical height of the shifter, or the clutch engagement?

And were there any changes in the 7-speed from the 991.1 to 991.2?

I doubt if it's any different, otherwise the various mags would have mentioned it.

After 2,000 miles with my 7 speed, I think it's one of the nicest gearboxes I've had. 7th gear is rarely used and unobtrusive. The one recommendation I have is to get the FunctionFirst **** as it adds weight and lowers the shifter height.

I've had my 991.2 for a few weeks now and 1600 miles. So far it's perfect. I love it. I am considering a short shift kit though. Only because I just can't leave well enough alone. It's a really nice manual. Very mechanical like everything Porsche.

I have read that it's not the same transmission as the 991.1. Not sure how it's different. I had one of those in my first 991.1. A 2012 cab. Both are fantastic, this one is maybe a little better. Love it.

I read in Excellence that the shifter in the GTS has a shorter shift lever. This gives it the feel of a short shift kit but only changing the length of the lever.

Currently if you get the Sport Chrono package and drive it in Sport or Sport+, the downshifts Will automatically rev match. Some people love it, some people would prefer to heel-toe on their own.

This feature can be disabled - per my SA, if you disable PSM, just get ready to slide .

I just blip over the rev match. It seems that once you hit the throttle, the rev match disables.

Oh no, not the rev match debate again!

(For the record, real drivers match their own.)

The 7-speed in the 991.2 has different ratios in third through seventh gears. Third is about the same as before but fourth through seventh are taller. In the 991.2, the ratios in the M7 and the PDK are identical. The 991.2 also has a dual-plate clutch with greater capacity and less pedal effort.

I was surprised about the high pedal and shift effort of the 991.1 - not like a 70's muscle car but way higher than my 996TT. The 991.2 just felt right - as if you could do it all day. The best I have driven - by far.

Default Changes to the MT

Hi,

I really enjoyed the 6-speed MT on my 997. On the 991.1 I found the 7-speed manual transmission to be lacking in precision and ease of use. I felt the gear lever was just too high up. So I went with PDK, which worked perfectly, but I just enjoy a stick more.

Recently I drove a 991.2 S with a MT and found it significantly improved. At Porsche, no one has been able (or allowed) to tell me of any changes to the transmission. Based on my own impressions, I am about to order a 991.2 with a manual transmission.

I was really excited to read your reports from "Excellence". Unfortunately I do not have access to this magazine. Would anyone be kind enough to post or quote the entire article ? By PM welcome too. I would appreciate that very much.

Thank you.

Thanks for all the insights!

So it definitely sounds like something changed from 991.1 to 991.2--with improvements to both the clutch pedal as well as the shifter?
