Hello everyone! I am new to the forum and to the porsche community'
I am currently in the market trying to get ahold of a 991 but I'm town between two model years.
Between a 2012 Carrera S or a 2013 Carrera S
I am in no hurry trying to get the cars so I could wait for depreciation to hit a little bit more, but my only concern is if there's any issues with a 2012 model because it's the first model make over and stuff like that. I'm leaning towards the 2012 model because I found one that's with in my budget and has all the bells and whistles that I want in my Porsche! So I just want to know if there's any first model year problems or issues to look out for or if the 2013 will be better quality since I assume they will fix any bugs or issues from the 2012 model. Thanks for your time and understanding! I will be posting often because I do indeed have lots of question! Thanks y'all!!
FYI...a 2012.5 would be the only 991. A true 2012 would be a 997.
The 991 also uses the 9A1 motor from the prior 997.2 series, so these are pretty well proven.
Yea the 2012.5 is what I'm looking for! That's good to know though! Thanks for the information! I'll do more research I'm currently looking through the Hot sale pick of the week thread for information about the car and as well as other forums as well!
2012.5 models produced early on have a communications unit that cannot be upgraded to the latest SW. I think the production month was August 2012 and IIRC the SW is limited to V3.8. You should check with a dealer. We purchased a CPO launch vehicle put in service in April 2012 and we could not get the latest software. It's not a deal breaker but something you should research further. We didn't have any other issues while we owned it. Moved to a 2014 C4s cab with my dream interior.
Yes beaver lake is correct, the early (launch) cars don't have the hard drive built into the pcm and can't be updated to the latest software. The PCM system works fine though, not a huge jump to the later 991.1 PCM. I wouldn't let that stop you from getting an early car. Now the 991.2 Apple CarPlay PCM is a big step up.
I was in the same boat as you and bought a 2012.5 launch car last year and have no regrets.

What you and beaver lake are saying is interesting! You see I'm upgrading from a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee so I think that infotainment system that's in that model Porsche will be enough! Hahaha I'm mostly concerned about reliability issues with the 2012.5 model ( but from all the positive information including yours and beavers everything seems very fine and dandy) as well as the driving experience and of course the options! Such as Sport chrono and the sport exhaust package!

I see that's interesting something I never knew! As long as I connect my iPhone via Bluetooth or a sort of cable I'll be good! I will be driving it and listening to that engine more than actually listening to music haha!!
Yea It's not a big deal having no hard drive. You can't store songs on the system is all. What you can do is plug in a USB drive with songs stored on it and it works well. Like you said you can also hook your phone up which works well also.

yea that's true! At the end of the day I don't need the hard drive when I got my phone or iPod as well as the system update
Pick a hand full of must have options and when one is found snag it.
Prices have been really fair here lately on CPO'ed 991.1 cars.... give or take a $1K or so.
If you find a car remote from where you live post it up ...... someone is bound to be willing to take a look at it for you.
Enjoy the hunt.
I'm still searching I won't be officially getting the car until mid year June or July so I'm trying to stack up my knowledge about the car while of course looking for the car itself! I've already found a few keepers but I'll definitely give your advice a try and next time I find something promising I'll post it up and see what y'all have to say about it! Thanks!
