Default MirrorTap "tap" size for 991.2

Hey guys -
Pulled the trigger on a escort iX and the blendMount and MirrorTap system. Read through a few different install threads and know where it will go best. What I am unsure about is the tap size that will work best with our cars.

The kit includes a .40, .45, .60, and .75 tap. Other than trail and error, does anyone know the correct tap size? I know it's tight quarters up there and the more prepared I am the better!

Many thanks! Pics of install and the new Miami Blue 991.2 to follow!

I did the install of the MirrorTap myself on my .1 so figured I could do it on the .2 as well. No joy. The components and wiring beneath the covers near the mirror on the .2 were completely different from the .1 and I couldn't find a viable hot lead. I went to an installer and they recommended getting the power from the fuse box and hiding the lead under trim up to the mirror. They told me they don't like getting power from the mirror area as it's not always reliable. They charged me $90 (the dealer wanted $250, also getting power from the fuse box) and it works great.

Well that's not what I was hoping to hear!
I do believe all the install threads I have read up on were .1's though. Hopefully there is someone out there with some success on the .2?

I installed the Mirror Tap on my .1 without an issue. In fact I moved the Mirror Tap from my Cayman to the 991.1 without issue. I just metered the electrical connections under the rearview mirror cover and found the switched 12V and ground, and used those. I have had no issues with the connection there.

I frankly do not like the Blendmount in the 911. I have my other V1 and Escort 360 mounted in the upper left corner of the windshield. Makes it harder to see for prying eyes, and then the run to the fusebox becomes really simple.

Sorry probably didn't help you here much. But seems to me if you meter the leads under the rearview, you can find the right connections.

I could only see one set of leads to test on my .2 (very thin wires that didn't give me a high degree of confidence), and I couldn't get a read on them. The other wires didn't have reachable connectors. I didn't want to dismantle further so I buttoned it up and spoke with a car electronics shop and the dealer. Again, neither liked getting power from the mirror complex.

360 in upper left = enough rear view you think? For the directional function...? I agree under rearview mirror is like the center of the windshield. But also prob happiest place for directional detectors I'd think.

The 991.2 is definitely different than the 991.1 in this regard. This is the only thread I've seen regarding mirror tap on a 991.2:

https://rennlist.com/forums/991-turb...our-radar.html

I opened up the panel and found the 3 colored leads he was talking about, but I wasn't convinced that one of them is a clean 12v hot (i.e. not feeding dimmable lighting, switched for airbag warning lights, or whatever). On my 991.2 I'm going to bail on the mirror tap and run power up from the fusebox.

Thanks!
I'll check out that thread. I may just scrap the MirrorTap option and go to passenger foot well. I know there are a few different sizes for the add-a-fuse taps. Anyone know if we're standard or mini?

I agree probably slightly better coverage from center location. But I can't believe it is significantly different.

I have a V1 in BMW 3 Series, and Escort 360 in my company minivan. Both mounted in upper left corner, and it has served me well.
