For those of us in the Northeast, at the suggestion of sdg1871 over in the Turbo section, I drove to Gold Mine road and PA-125 near Harrisburg, PA. Just wow. Fun, fun drive. Lots of twists, narrow cuts and hills. Got on Gold Mine Road at about 3:15pm and no one was on it. Quick 10 minute drive, then when you're done, about 20 minutes north, head over to PA-125 for an extended version, about 25 minutes of adrenaline.

Driving north from SF through Muir Woods out to the point Reyes lighthouse is a beautiful drive.

Well, maybe it's time to get a cellphone.....just for this to start!

He must pay for all of the Porsche Connect programs. That's the only safe way to not have a cell phone.

I'm planning to drive through the Alps from Germany to Lake Como. Suggestions for the best times to do this? September? October? All suggestions appreciated.

I did it last year in the first week of Oct. We were able to keep the top down in the Box-GTS we had rented most days. We did the Oberalp/Lukmanier Pass route on that trip. We continued down to Spain for about 3 more weeks. I did note one day while looking at the weather there had been some wet snow in the Alps, that was in the 3rd week in October. I would say late Sep to early Oct is good. The Summer crowds will be gone, and the weather should still be nice and warm. It was good fun, I hope you enjoy trip as much as we did ours.

Found this article somewhat helpful in my search for road trips.

Going to the sun road in Glacier NP, Montana - only available in the summers.

Beartooth Highway - US 212 West of Yellowstone NP. The speed limit in the Montana portion is 70 mph, so the switchbacks can be a lot of fun without even breaking the law. Look, they even named the corners!

I know it well. I used to live in Switzerland and drive down to Lugano a lot, also to Como. In fact, I was just at Lake Como at few weeks ago. I have never experienced it when it wasn't busy, but do suggest you take Rt 4 to Rt 2 along the lakes. It's a nice drive. September would be nice.

P.S. - check the Euro holidays, religious ones, too. In Switzerland, holidays can be Canton specific (Catholic cantons especially), and traffic is always worse then.

Wow, you are lucky to be near there. We went skiing at Whitefish two years ago - is that nearby?

It's very close to Whitefish - just head northeast for an hour or two and you'd be driving on it.

We live in the Salt Lake area of Utah so it's neither close nor very far, but my parents live in Montana near the Idaho panhandle so we get out that way now and then. We're actually planning to head back up to Glacier NP and up farther to Banff Canada in a month or so. I hear going through Banff first makes a return via Glacier seem unremarkable. I'd like to see for myself!

I live west of Calgary, about 45 minutes by road from Banff. The best drive in the area, IMHO is the road from Banff/Lake Louise up to Jasper. I last drove in that area about a few weeks back, we had to stop while a Grizzly and her young Cub walked by. I was in my Chevy HD2500, happy not to be in my 911 Cab at that point in time.

I have driven the Sun Road in MT, and it is indeed one of the top drives in world, IMHO.

I have a summer home just north of the ID Panhandle in BC, some great roads up there too, Hwy 3A north of Creston BC is one of my favs, in either my P-Cars, or one of my motorcycles.
