Instrument Illumination
During day driving I cannot read the faces of my black instrument dials. Am I the only one? The only thing that lights up is the digital speed, odometer and gear selected, along with the illuminated information screen. Dealer says this is normal.
Picture shows more readability than in real life.

One of the very few times I agree with dealer.

I've never had a problem, though mine looks a little brighter than yours, have you fiddled with the *** underneath the speedo?
Have you got your side lights on? If not it might be worth turning them on, it's proven to decrease accidents.
Here are mine for comparison: http://imgur.com/RknOBYr

From you pic it looks like the gauge brightness is turned all the way down. Do you see that little button to the left and below your gauges. That resets odometer and instrument brightness. Start the car, don't push it in, just gently turn it clockwise. Adjust instrumentation brightness to your liking.

I know about the brightness adjustment, but that just adjusts the brightness with the lights on, not during day time. Does the ambient light percentage adjustment help? Mine is set at 40%.

Mine works the same way. Usually not too much of a problem but there are lighting conditions where I wish I could put some light on the gauges when the lights are off. I can do just that on my other cars but not the 991. If someone figures out a way to do this I would be interested.....

My cayman friend had this very predicament. It's not normal but not broken. That tiny **** isn't like the traditional *****... turn it hard and hold it at the "click." The **** is more of a button that twists than something you turn to a setting. I'm having a hard time describing better... just twist hard and hold to desired brightness.

I am married to an optometrist. You need to see one asap. Please consult with your doctor about the vision issues. My wife encounters so many patients that complain to her about not being able to see car dials properly. Problem is usually solved by Doc's consultation/treatment - could be new glass prescription, or polarized glasses etc (I am not a doctor, nor do I claim to be one or pretend to be one lol)
