When will the 992 be announced?
I'm trying to make a decision on a 2018 911 or wait for the 992. I'm not one to keep waiting for the next best thing either though. That would be a very long wait.
I've been following the spy pics of the 992 mules and it looks like it is very far along and ready for production. My guess is that it will be coming out as a 2019 vice a 2020. Announced later this year, ordering available in March 2018, production in June 2018 and on the dealer lots in Aug/Sep 2018. This makes sense since the GTS was announced so early in the .2 cycle as the same MY as the 991.2 entry. I think Porsche is short cycling the .2 to get on with the hybrids earlier. I am familiar with the product cycles and production lengths of the .1 and .2s for the 911 and Cayman/Boxsters so I am not really asking this question.
My question is really based on the "nearness" of production based on current spy pics.
My reference point is the 981 Spyder spy pics that started surfacing during Porsche testing in South Africa (if anyone was following that story). These pics were totally random taken by an enthusiast. The car was announced and available within a year. The 992 winter driving pics are probably sponsored or supported by Porsche based on the number/quality of pics and the lack of "randomness" that allowed the interaction of a photographer for multiple models.
2019 or 2020? Thoughts on this?

The car magazines seem to be saying we'll see this as a 2019 model year, so October 2018? Or maybe earlier like the 991.2. If you wait, what are you going to drive in the mean time?

EDIT: I just re-read the article you posted in the other thread. I obviously missed it and was too focused on the pics. Thanks for reposting in this thread.
I have a 2014 Porsche Boxster S (avatar) which I will keep forever. It's just a weekend toy but I already have 31k miles on it. I want the 992 to replace my daily driver which is a 2008 Lexus IS350 with 165k miles on it - It's ready to go but I can squeeze out another year from her.

It's possible to have both 2019 991.2 and 2019 992? Both as manufacture year 2019?
My thought is that since the 991.2 GT3 will be a 2 year run as My 2018 and MY 2019 and there will be a 2019 .2 GT3 RS, is it possible that they will have both MY 2019 991.2 GT3/RS and the MY 2019 992? Wouldn't 992 be 2020?

992 won't be until MY 2020. Car magazines are wrong all the time.

'17 911Rs and GT3RS are 991.1s, while '17 Carreras are 991.2s
