Default powdercoated exhaust tips and tinted taillights today

I had the taillights tinted originally when I bought the car, but there were lots of tiny hairline cracks inside the lights that were visible once they were tinted, so the dealership replaced them under warranty for me. Finally had my paint guy retint the new ones for me. While putting them back in, I also decided to powdercoat my exhaust tips satin black. Paint was done at Autoglo, in Tucker GA. I highly recommend them for any paint work in atlanta. I did the powdercoating myself, as I am a semi retired professional powdercoater.

Looks good. How dark did you go on the tails?

just a medium. They are about the same as the Porsche Exclusive tinted tails on our cayenne.

Keep us updated on how well the powder coating survives prolonged high heat exhaust. There are a ton more colors available for powder coating than ceramic coating but the temp limits of powder coating had me opt for ceramic. Looks good and hope it lasts.

will do. I'm interested too. I know that they say rear engine exhaust gets hotter, but there is an air separation between the inner and outer parts of the tips. Also, I did the entire muffler section of my 370Z racecar, just to see what would happen. The powdercoat burned off of the piping between the tip and the muffler on that one, but not the muffler itself or the tips. That car never runs under 4000 rpms.

From your pictures, it appears that powder coating looks a bit more shiny than ceramic. Nice work.

Question

can tailpipes be painted bright black?

or does the paint dont work, and have to be flat black or powder coated?

I used a satin black. Gloss black can be used too. If the powdercoat does hold up, quality liquid paint should too. I had the tips on my last Cayenne painted by the body shop instead of powdercoated since they were doing other work on it and that held up fine.

update.
Many say powdercoat won't hold up on the tips. After 3 months and 1000 miles, they still look like new and are holding up just fine.

My local powder coat shop would not do it due to flaking in the future! I had it done by a local ceramic place. I sprayed with armorall brake dust repellent. I have not had to clean them for 3 weeks now.
