Default 991 C2 to 997 C2S - Thoughts?

Last spring I was searching for my 1st Porsche for several months and stumbled upon the car I eventually purchased at my local dealership. I really wanted a cab that was optioned out a certain way and I had a very specific price point that I wanted to stay under. I really wasn't finding it, and ultimately ended up purchasing a 2014 base coupe that was optioned the way I wanted and was a very unique and striking color when seen in person (Mahogany). I have been very happy with the car, but find myself really wanting a cab now that the weather is getting nicer. My local dealer has a car on the lot that's very intriguing... it's a minimally optioned 2009 C2S Cab, MT, CPO, Silver w/Black interior and only 15K miles. I'm assuming that many of you owned 997s prior to moving up to the 991. What are your thoughts about going from a base 991 to a low miles 997 C2S? Will it be a big step backwards for me despite the slight HP increase? I realize that it's 5 years older than my car but again the miles are quite low and the price is around 58K. Would appreciate any and all opinions.

I went from a 996 cab to 991 cab. The proof will always be in the driving, drive the 997 and see if you like it. To me the selling price of the 997 is not compelling. Otherwise wait, subscribe and habitually read the HFS thread....

The 991.2 crowd has very thin skin.... the 997 crowd would tell you the 997 is a better car than the 991. The only progression that was universally unloved was the 996. A 997S is fantastic and an exceptional car but very different than the 991. More raw, less comfort and not as nicely appointed. Drive it and get it if you love it. Neither is better and both are very different personalities.

You need to drive a 997. I think in many ways it is more "Porsche-like" than the 991. It is not nearly as fast or refined as the new platform but most would agree it is more raw feeling and acting. I often miss driving my 997, which I had for 10 yrs, and if my GTS were ever stolen or gone, I would consider looking for a nice 997 GTS.

Unless your 991 has Porsche active suspension management, the big difference will be the ride since the 997 Carrera S has PASM standard. It may not be as Refined as a 991, but what may help to make things almost even, If at all, is the fact that the 997S has PASM. I still miss my 997 and it too was a base model.

To me, the driving dynamics between the 997 and 991 are not that different. Of course the 991 is faster and feels more GT, but both still feel like 911's.
What I would miss most is the electronic upgrades. The PCM in the 991 is so much better. Other things that are big perks for me are the keyless entry, LCA, and Apple car play. I swear that Apple car play makes the Bose stereo sound pretty good.
Personally, I wouldn't go back to the 997.

Thanks for the replies. Obviously I'm going to take it for a test drive hopefully early this week. The 997 C2S has about a 35HP advantage compared to my 991 C2. I would imagine that the additional power combined with the firmer suspension will make for a very different ride. Even though the miles are very low on the 997, I'd probably struggle with going to a 5 year older car. We'll see...

997 is a great car. I loved mine (had several). However I wouldn't want to move 5 yrs back.

I had a 997 Cab and found it a little disappointing, not as fast as I would have liked and leaky roof (Carrera 4 Cab with MT). My 991.2 is a better car and more fun for me (Targa 4 also MT).
