Thanks for the feedback. I'm not going to get the power steering plus. Drove a 2018 GTS tonight with RAS and liked how it felt and will plan on adding that to my build.

Can't argue with any of the feedback here—there's plenty of really good first-person experience, particularly about around town maneuverability.

I drove 991.2 C2 without RAS and a 991.2 C2S with RAS back to back on great roads in Spain. The RAS added confidence, particularly under braking on the way into a fast bend, or slowing a LOT for a slow bend—and felt "organic" to me, which is to say I didn't sense it doing its work. Same as in the GT3s, Turbos, GTSs, etc I have driven with RAS.

However, I *liked* the simpler, nearly no options C2 (20s and PSE...that was it). Was more fun. Can't quantify that, but it was the base car I've been thinking about ever since.

YMMV!

Don't get the PSP, chances are that you might need to spend extra money to have it removed (software) afterwards. Congratulations on your upcoming GTS, I am sure you will have a lot of wondering and fun time with your new ride.

I started this topic and was considering trading up my .2 base to a GTS, but decided to keep my .2 base w/ 7MT. It's such a fun and balanced car to me that I find myself using every possible excuse to drive it. It's almost 1yr from taking delivery and I have close to 19000km now. This is my secondary vehicle as my daily is a 15' X5. If I knew the GTS was going to be announced so soon after the .2 was released, I'd had waited.

I tried very hard to get a .2 GT3 allocation and after consulting with several dealers across the country (in Canada), the chance of getting a 6MT GT3 seems impossible unless I am willing to pay premium. So, I went on to order an AMG GTR instead. This will be my first time buying a MB and AMG. I know it's different, but this gives me the chance to experience something new.

Thanks for starting the thread - without reading some input I might have not gone with RAS. Drove a .2 GTS for the first time last night (not a 911 owner now) the car was fantastic. Can't wait to get my own, but that will be in 2018 with my dealers allocation slot.

The difference between my 997.2 Carrera S w/o RAS and the 991.2 GTS with RAS is really just amazing, the car feels so much more planted. A definite plus. And, in SoCal, the front axle lift is also a must if you want your front lip to stay intact.

I got both of these options on my 991.2 GTS and very happy with them.

Same here. FAL was a must due to steep pitch on office driveway, our 997 can't make it out without scraping. RAS does make the car handle differently and u-turns are a bit shorter.

Just peanut gallery comment from a #1 car...

RWS is one of the major handling advances to the #2 cars. I believe this made substantial contributions to the improved lap times on the new cars. If I were to get a #2 it would be PASM (cause I'm a cab guy), PDCC, SC and RWS - no question.

That being said; similarly to PDK, PDCC, PASM and SPASM, dynamic engine and transmission mounts etc... all make the car a fantastic performer. With that in mind, many would argue they also take away from the fun factor. it just depends on where your desired land on the spectrum of analog vs OEM driver aids - that's all.

Would 99.9% of the population notice or care about any of these? Absolutely not.

Default Rear Axle Steering Maintenance

This thread is very informative. I have a order for a 992 CS2 manual and am considering adding RAS. The question I have is maintenance. What is the 6 year / 60K maintenance that was mentioned? What about routine wheel alignments? Ballpark costs for these in the US? Thanks!

I don’t like it. I never ordered it with my GTS.

I track all the time. I also drive a GT2-RS at the track, and if i buy a GT2-RS, the first mod would be to remove the RAS. It’s an easy replace with BBI bar.

I don’t like the feel. I don’t want my toe changing mid corner.

I think it might be great on the street, for slow speed parking. But i don’t like it at the track. I don’t want to get used to it. It feels wrong.

I actually like how nimble my C4S Cab is with RAS. I would get it again on another car.

Don’t get it, true race cars don’t have RWS.

These aren't race cars. Worth every cent.

Exactly. Guys who don’t track hard like it.

Fast guys, who track hard, with highly modified cars, don’t.

I laugh everytime i hear soneone say how well a completely stock car handles. Sure, it will out handle a prius on the street at the speed limit.

Your nimble car would be sliding on its roof through the gravel if you tried to follow me through a corner. As with everything, there are levels. RAS is great for parking. But for on the edge performance, I’ll pass like every other race car.

I liken it to traction control. Great for slow beginners. As you get faster, you switch it half off. Then when you can catch all slides, and get faster again, you switch it fully off.

These nannies help, when you are learning.
But once you’re advanced, they are more of a hinderence.

It might have been stated in the previous posts. RAS wants to get neutral under braking. This is a really odd experience. So it will help you turn into corner but when braking it will try to make the rear neutral. You can see yt vids of the steering wheel shudder for no reason. Its not the track. Its the RAS going to neutral under braking.
For me, because of intention to keep car for a long time, this a box not checked when car was ordered. Can't imagine what a repair cost would be if RAS needed.
