Ignored next to Mini
#34
I met up with some friends and I was parked next to a Mini. As we were getting into our cars at the end of the evening one of the girls says to him "wow, cute car" and walks right past my 911.1 C4S.
Most women I've met couldn't care less about your car and obviously I didn't buy the car to impress anyone, but as a single guy it still stung a bit that she noticed the Mini over the 911.
On the other hand I've had random people ask to take pictures of the car and come up and ask questions about it, but as much as I like the Mini I never thought of it as competition for the 911 in terms of looks.

I had one of the first Mercedes Smart Car's in Calgary in 2005. I was driving down a local 'strip' were lots of young 'hip' people hung out. It is also a strip that is used to show off your flashly car/truck/motorcycle. 17Ave SW for those of you familiar with Calgary. I was only using that road to get home. I was stopped at a Red light along side a drop dead gorgeous semi-custom early 60's vette, driven by a young man. I looked over and gave him a thumbs-up, as I do to anybody driving a nice older car. He looked back and just shook his head. Just then 3 young ladies walked by, guess what car they swarmed over He just looked straight ahead, and I guess was wishing the light would turn green very soon.

Drove a MINI Countryman John Cooper Works for a couple of years as my DD. With four-doors and an okay backseat, it was a pretty good urban warrior/Costco car, especially in L.A. It was a lot of fun to drive. Felt quite fast, although it wasn't, but eventually the stiff ride (short wheelbase, run-flats) got to me. Replaced it with a BMW X1 last fall. The MINI did attract a lot of attention with that set-up, though. Fun car.
