Wow, that's some crazy stuff. I used to take my then-girlfriend (now my wife) into Ensenada a few times a year from Orange County and then it got silly scary.

The stories aren't anecdotal anymore. If you check out any of the gore sites online there are two places on Earth that dominate the videos: Brazil and Mexico. The cartel wars are frightening. There are 14 year-old boys that will shoot you in a heartbeat to drive that car for an hour.

I wouldn't even call it big cajones. It's flat-out irresponsible to me. I just read an article describing Tijuana as the Wild Wild West. Do what you want, there are no laws and the only thing more corrupt than the criminals are the actual law enforcement officers.

All that aside, your car is beautiful! Love the color and the wheels. I suspect our levels of personal comfort differ considerably as evidenced by the picture of your oil change. Not in a million years, my friend.

Tip #3

Nap time can happen anywhere anytime in Mexico

Tip #4

Oil change does NOT cost $350 in Mexico, it cost $70 in parts + $20 in labor

I hope that one day those wonderfully shaky, one handed DIY videos don't just stop appearing.

Good luck OP, you're gonna need it. But have fun!

I love it! I bet it feels like you broke out of jail. Unfortunately the US turned into a police state and many of the freedoms we enjoyed when young are gone. I don't think Mexico is a place for that kind of fun unfortunately. They like to hold white Americans for ransom. Some local white guy was found dead there recently. While I think you're crazy there is a part of me that would do the same thing if I was single with no family. Good luck and make sure you have a shotgun in the funk just in case. Clint Eastwood style.

Get caught with a shotgun in Messeco, as an American, and you will NOT be coming back any time soon or at all.

OP, you should post every day so we know you are ok

If you fail to post, we will notify the authorities and have them look for a white porsche - there appears to be only 2 in Tijuana

Yep, and hope you like Tacos, once you land in the slammer.

OP - your little excursion is flat out crazy. Buy kidnap insurance if you have family ties.

And the sleeping hombre on the tractor is too funny.

Not true. One can obtain a permit but it has to be done before entering the country. Just tell them your going on a hunting trip. Shotguns are no problem.

Their not attacking people driving around around. This isn't Africa.

You are not living in that much safer place than Mexico: #45 usa vs #41 Mexico Crime rate. We are not living in Europe, where people actually are civilized.

Look for trouble, you will find it ANYWHERE, but they are not Hi-jacking tourists left and right.
What the hell kind of comment is the Africa reference. You ain't right homey! I would much rather drive around in Africa than in Mexico. Get your facts straight

The roads in the US are extremely boring and SAFE, constantly worrying about a cop in the corner trying to hit you with a $500 ticket. Cops there got better things to do, such as getting tacos :-)

You actually get to use your car, and not granny shift it. Your alert, your alive, cause YES danger is everywhere.
I applaud your bravery. I would tag along if permitted (with body armor, carbon nanotube helmet, and military grade M16 of course)

OP, If you're looking for some hot little Latina girls, come to Los Angeles. LA might as well be Mexico. Safer. Better food. No roving bands of drug dealers or highway hijackers.

Regardless of the ribbing you are getting, be safe and enjoy the adventure. This reminds me of the dude on flyertalk who took a vacation two years ago to Afghanistan and Iraq. Very very big *****. Amazing photos and experience. Not for the fair weather adventurer.
