Default Replacing wheel arch trim - look what was hiding

So my rear, lower wheel arch trims (in front of rear wheels on rocker panel) arrive tomorrow. I removed the old ones to find a massive amount of dirt.

Why are you replacing them?

They are looking a little worn/scratched at only 36k. For $25 each and only 5 minutes to change it's reasonable for me rather than temporary cleaning solutions.

Might be good to do this once a year to keep this crap from accumulating and corrosion to a minimum especially on daily driven cars.

Thanks for the pictures.

Yeah. At the price for new, not worth the time to clean them.

Yep, all the dirt/sand that gets between the gaps in the wheel well liner and car body has no where to go but settle above this part. If you do remove to clean and plan to keep the existing cover, you have to be careful NOT to pull the rubber off the top clip or it won't really go back on. Once you remove the 2 screws on the inner wheel well and the 3 under the car, slide it towards the inside of the wheel, parallel to the ground by pushing on the top outer corner. You'll see where it's clipped. My clip was actually starting to rust so glad it's getting replaced.

That's crazy!

Can you take a pic of which piece you are replacing? Is it the little piece that looks like a mini-mud flap? Would love to open it up and make sure mines not filled with crap either.

That's a lot of dirt. Was this a prior track(ed) car?

Did you happen to have a lot of road noise?

Yes.

I clean mine up, and top with either Aerospace 303 or Black WOW! and they are still fine. They do take a beating, though.

All season driving, and/or dirty or gravel road driving.

Seems like driving in the rain would kick up a lot of this stuff.
