From crushed to a crush
Greetings fellow obsessives.
About 15 (16? 17?) years ago, I realized my P-car dream, and bought a second-hand '95 993. Basic Carrera, kind of a stripper, manual, partial leather...but a dream fulfilled nonetheless.
I had it and drove it for several years when my kids were tykes. Got a real kick out of taking them for drives in the back seats.
One Saturday morning, I was up early and heading out to the gym. But I'd forgotten something, and came back to the driveway, parking my car behind one of our two (closed) garage bays, and ran into the side door of the house to get whatever the hell I'd forgotten (iPod? Headphones? Who the hell can remember?)
While I was opening the door into the house, the inside door to the garage was closing...and my wife was getting into her SUV (an old Discovery).
You know where this is going, don't you?
She opens the garage and backs out at speed...and...well...
Let's just say "ka-BOOM."
This happened pre-iPhone and routine digital-picture-taking, so I don't have any pictures.
But suffice it to say that the hill climbing capabilities of the Land Rover were put to good use, practically scaling the front hood of my car, and handsomely crushing it.
*Crushed*
Well, insurance covered it. I got it put back together. But it was never the same (naturally), so I sold it.
Now, a decade and a half later, after a bunch of Audis and an a Beemer, while the hairline recedes and the middle spreads (I'm fighting the good fight), and the kids are teens/demi-adults, I'm getting to the point where I find myself saying: "How long are you gonna wait, dude? Until you're sitting in a doctor's office hearing some crummy news? Fifty-five? Fifty-eight? Sixty?
So: I went shopping and now I'm about to close a deal on a '17 Carrera S. Graphite blue, chalk/blue two-tone interior, and probably over-optioned (extended leather; Sports Package, Premium Package+, PLDS+, glass sunroof, Bose, 20" Carrera Classic wheels, GT Sport heated wheel; rear-wheel steering). But it's apparently a launch car, it's been sitting a while, and we're at a healthy, 7% end-of-December discount.
I have a crush. Different than the first time (I hope).
It's pull-the-trigger time today. Any last words of advice?

I can relate with your story and thanks for sharing an embarrassing moment. Happens to all of us at one time or another. I think a new car is perfect to re-energize life. At least for a while. 7% isn't bad but if you can squeeze a bit more on it since it's end of year. It would be better. Good luck and come back to share your joy.

Good question re: mileage. The car is sitting in showroom. Turned it on yesterday but never even bothered to look.
Why would warranty be punched if it's a new car and never been sold?
No, wifey doesn't have a backup camera in her DD. She has the fear of God.

Check the mileage. Never know.
"Punching" the warranty to count a car as sold is pretty common. Seeing it's been around a while, may be the case.
You need to ask all the questions.
If no miles and no punched warranty you should be able to get 8% off it's been sitting and you're somewhere with snow on the ground.
Also .. what is MSRP??

If it's been there a year, ask about an oil change and definitely get the actual mileage first.
Graphite is an "instant classic" color IMO. I had one on order until I was able to get a PTS allocation.
