Stopped by the dealership for a car wash, walked out with a MY18 GT3 waitlist spot
Happy Friday everyone!
So I stopped by my local Porsche dealership for a car wash (I know, I know you're supposed to hand wash your car, but whatever) and I decided to stop by the showroom.
Anyways I asked one of the sales reps how many people were on the MY18 GT3 waiting list and he told me just one person, and obviously he could not guarantee anything until he received allocations but he feels pretty confident that at #2 I would be able to get one.
So ... I just had to put down a fully refundable at any time $ 1000 deposit so I said screw it ... Happy Hannukah to me. Am I the only idiot to do this recently? Seems like a good option with little downside? Curious to get everyone's thoughts.

Nice dude! Congrats. Just out of curiosity do all the dealerships do courtesy car washes? Sometimes I'm feeling to lazy to wash it myself, and I drive by Porsche of San Diego on my way to work everyday.

Not sure about all of them, but found out when I picked up my newest Porsche that my dealer does - they specifically invited me to stop in for a car wash anytime I felt like it. They hand wash all the Pcars.

That free car wash just cost you about $160,000. Congrats!

I'm number 13 at local dealer, might have one by 2019. Sort of a joke at this point. But I can tell you this for sure. If P ****s around and doesn't produce/allocate enough to meet demand, and the dealers continue to play games with pricing Porsche will likely lose a customer.
BTW, at the risk of stating the obvious, a hand wash isn't necessarily any better than the crappiest of old car washes. I guess it doesn't matter as much as long as you have a lighter color and/or a good paint protection film on the car, but I'm far too paranoid to let anybody touch my non-metallic black (even if they were to pay me to wash it).

Two similar issues to discuss:
I took my 1995 993 Coupe (that I picked up at the factory) for an oil change. While crawling around the show-room I saw a new 991.1 Black base PDK. The salesperson told me it had been ordered by a snow-bird but his trade-in did not live up to expectations. Since it was base they were anxious to sell it. I (mistakenly) traded the 993 for the 991. The salesman immediately bought the 993 from the dealership. I have tried to buy it back with no response. I sold the PDK 991.1 15 months later and ordered the 2015 991 MT GTS that you see in the Avatar. I am contented!
Regarding dealer washing, I refuse it kindly on all my cars (2014,2015,2016). I have never seen more destruction on a vehicle than a "dealer washing". My Porsche dealer does not even dry the car. It returns with more swirls than when I delivered it. They can even manage to disfigure a perfectly clean, detailed car. I have been patient but the three dealers know that unless they can improve how it looks when I bring it in (unlikely), they are wasting their time and money. Many folks may not be as concerned about finished quality as am I. Just call be compulsive and start the raves. Look at my others: https://rennlist.com/forums/991/87396...-porsches.html.

I dropped by the Porsche Center in Atlanta to drive a GT3 on the track and elsewhere for 1.5 hours. I thought I was prepared to buy one. I can recommend that anyone who has a lust for a Porsche they have never driven before, go to Atlanta or LA and drive the car of their choice. I drove the GT3 and discovered I did not like PDK and also disliked the ingress and egress of the seats. The car goes like stink but I drive in mountains and rural back roads. I rarely track it. The GTS and not the GT3 was obviously for me. It has been on the track at Daytona as well as mountain and rural roads in NC. The-Tail-of-The-Dragon is a hoot. The moral is, TRY IT BEFORE YOU BUY IT>
