Default Engine belt failure @4000 miles

Since new I had a smell like burnt brake pads. Found a quarter inch wide, slice off the entire serpentine belt hanging from my engine. Anyones else have this problem. Must be a misaligned pully or failed bearing. 2015 991.1 S model.

I'm not sure I have heard of this before with the 991. Makes you glad for that warranty.

While I did not have a belt failure, I did have a belt tensioner failure at 6k and 10 months old (2016). The failure of this part will end up failing the belt. Check to see that there is no hydraulic leakage coming from your tensioner.

When I took my 2012 991 S in for its four-year service at 22,000 miles the tech found that the belt had split down the middle but was working perfectly. No indication of a problem. Of course, no telling when it might have failed completely. Belt replaced under warranty.

The dealer replaced my belt tensioner and pully. I suggest you all stick your head under the rear bumper and check your belt. Easy to see if it is frayed on one side or split. Looks like a design or supplier issue.
