Default Over rev report 991.1

I'm a concerned 991 mt owner. What are the parameters of over stepping the motor on a 991. Google it and found no such report available. I'm guilty of hitting the limiter a few times. Would like to know what constitutes a dealer refusing CPO. I'm curious to know the thresholds just to be on the safe side of things. Thanks.

I don't remember the thresholds but if you ever over revved you would know because a message appears on th MFD. I did this at Watkins Glen shifting from 4 to 5 which turned out to be 4 to 3 - oops. I got a yellow over rev Level 1 warning on the MFD. Had my indie check it with their PIWIS the following week to confirm.

Bottom line, if you over rev the MFD will tell you. And you can only do this gearing down with a MT.

Thank you. That's very informative. Didn't know that an MDF message would appear. I've hit the limiter a few times and no such message appeared. On upshifts. Read there are 6 over rev stages. 1 and 2 are at or before hitting the hard limit fuel cut. How long did the message appear for?

Over revs in range #1 and #2 are normal. Range #3 is a bit rare (without a money shift) and a gray area for Porsche warranty. Range #4, #5, and #6 are much more severe, and result from a missed shift, and can most certainly be used against you by Porsche for any warranty claim. If you have range #3 and above events, you'd like to see a minimum of 50 "trouble free" operating hours before you can feel like you are out of the woods regarding engine damage. The record it still there, and the longer term impact is not without consequences.

I would never recommend buying a used 991 with over-revs exceeding range #3 regardless of a safe 50 hours of trouble free. If there are range #3s, I'd want to see the safe 50 hours. I'd also never like to see over revs in range #1 #2 within hours of being sold, because that indicates to me "joy rides".

You never surprise me with your attention to detail. Are you or have you ever bin a Porsche tech? Makes sense if you are. Good info thanks. Still looking for the over rev ranges for reference.
