I don’t know if a mutual fund would’ve done as well, not that that is the reason to have these toys, but it sure helps justify things.
I agonized over selling my '95 993 that I'd owned for 17 years when I bought the Carrera T in 2018. I loved that car, and had taken great care of it -- modding a RS suspension, LW RS Flywheel, and tune, but couldn't justify 2 911s. I am glad for my time with it, but the Carrera T is a much better car in almost every respect, especially ergonomically. 23 years of forward development will do that. The only thing I miss is the "chainsaw ripping through a pillow" sound of the 3.6L in 3rd at 6800 RPM :-). But the 3.0T makes some good noises too.
But to be honest, I cannot really think of a good reason to have 2 sports cars (whether they are both 911 or not).
I feel like having one car for one purpose is the correct thing to do as space and budget is not infinite: 1 sports car (dream car), 1 daily driver (beater car), 1 big SUV (for long distance travel with family and towing).
You can also have sport cars with different purposes! I own a '72 Targa which is awesome on an open mountain road in the summer, but not great on highways and obviously I don't drive it in winter. Therefore I bought a 996 Carrera two years ago which is great in summer or winter, rain or sunshine. I can park it on the street, use it every day, so it brings me a lot of joy. But it doesn't scratch the "vintage 911" itch as much as the '72. So they complement each other nicely. Now though, I've started to develop an itch for a third 911, ideally a 3.2, that would be a little more usable on highways than the Targa. I test drove a 993 this week, but found it oddly boring to drive. Anyway, just wanted to point out that there are reasons to have multiple 911s.
just checking it after all these years : have you all kept your 993 along with your 991s?
If I close my eyes and only picture one car, it would be the 993 that I would keep. But to be honest, my future 991.1 is so rare to find in this configuration that it would be almost impossible to find another one if I let it go.
Which car should I keep?
Of course. Ask yourself, how easy is it to find a low mileage, mint, one-owner 993? If I absolutely had to sell one, my 991.1 with all the right options would go even though I lucked into a new car as a second owner. Also a rare find. But the 993 is a keeper!

Agreed, I have been down this road of considering having multiple 911s to serve different purposes. Ideally, I would need to add a 997.2 Turbo and a 991.2 Touring to complete my 911 collection but I don't think the wife would agree :-D

I know it’s just a few trim changes, unique wheels, and a special paint job, but man, the details in the 50th anniversary really work for me. Just a beautiful, special car, inside and out. Congratulations!!!

I am in the exact same boat. I've had my 993 for 10yrs and don't think i could ever part with it, it is such a fun car that I use on the weekends and evenings. I have had the itch (a real bad one) to get a 991.1 manual. I'm having a real hard time justifying having 2 Porsches that will sit in my garage most days. I guess it is the "definition" of a 1st world problem.
I have an SC and a 991.1. I pinch myself most days to convince myself it's real. I dream of one day owning a 993 (big time scratch I'd like to itch). I enjoy driving them both, but they are completely different experiences. Both enjoyable, but both very different. I rotate driving them on weekends, some evenings and occasionally to the office. I justify having them as "because I could" and it fulfills many (but not all!) lifelong dreams. Given the direction of ICE"s and especially "special" sportscars, I have a tough time envisioning getting rid of these, unless it was to upgrade from my short list of more desirable 911's.
