Default Instrument dial visibility and color choices.

What is the standard color for the instrument dials? It shows Instrument dials in black = $0 on the configurator, but are they not black as standard?
I'm asking because my '13 Boxster's tach was almost impossible to read when it was very bright in the cabin.
Paid no attention with the TT since PDK, but the Boxster GTS I just traded was definitely better than the '13.
I hate to pay over $1200 for white dials, but want to be able to read the tach at all times on the Targa I"m ordering. Does checking dials in black change the color?
Have others noticed the problem and what about the folks who sprung for white, yellow, etc?
I should find out when my build locks today, so thanks for any insights.

My grey tach sucks on my 911S, so much that I'm going to install a red face.

My white faces are great except at dusk or dawn they are hard to read when they are turning from white (daytime) to black (night).

My yellow have really grown on me. Had black with grey/silver tach (991.1S) on my last 991.1. Both seemed fine.

At night the yellow fades to black without direct lighting, with the numbers illuminated from behind.

It is my understanding that checking the Black dials box keeps the tach Black instead of Gray on the S models.

Black is the way to go...day or night it is readable (2x991 pictures) and matches the classic look from the old models (1x1988 911)

Agree with that wholeheartedly! The grey seems to have been the worst possible choice for daytime use although it was considered a free "upgrade" for the S. It is somewhat passable when I wear reading glasses, but I don't drive with those on. It must have been thought of by a person with perfect vision. Possibly unintended consequences of not thinking about the demographics of much of your buyer base.

Do whatever you have to do not to end up with grey. The black gauges are perfect in my opinion.

I ordered red gauges and sport chrono. Couldn't be happier with the choice.

If you are buying a base car, what colour gauges come standard? There isn't an option for black gauges on a base car.

The black sides in my GTS are excellent as is the red center gauge spec'd with the GTS package. Great vis and look awesome.

Correct. And this is a must-have, IMO. Grey is too hard to read. As far as colors go, (White, red, yellow, etc.) I don't like them in the 991 because the right hand face will always be black because of the various electronic readouts and nav views. And to me it interrupts the symmetry of the color gauges with a black eye on the right.

Base = black. That's why it's a $0 option on an S.
