Mdrob, I can't speak for Blue here but I have been thinking about this the past few days myself and I gotta say that the announcement and pricing of the new GTS makes me even happier to have my .1. I don't care about the extra power. I can barely use all of what I have now in normal street driving. Only thing that really appeals to me is being able to spec out a different color, like Miami blue, but the thought of spending at least another $40k to get one would make me feel a little sick in the stomach. The sound alone gives me more of an emotional response over the .2. The .2 sounds great but still kind of like listening to a symphony while behind a closed door. I wouldn't completely rule one out down the road, but for me it would have to be a CPO.

No thinking here. There will always be newer, faster toys. For me the rumble of the motor will never be the same with a TT3.0L. Win the race and track laps, suits me just fine.
I'll pocket the $40K, make a whole lotta noise in the process and enjoy the predictable, linear acceleration.

Do have one question for you...know from following your posts and threads that you were considering the new 991.2 GTS whenever it was revealed but went with the 991.1 GTS instead due to the NA and other reasons. What are your thoughts now of the new 991.2 GTS now that its announced and specs released and the configurator up too. Any less love for your black beauty now?
Took me a while to warm up to my GTS but after some seat time it's definitely going to be difficult one to sell/trade when the time comes. Not without flaws just a fun piece of art to drive.
Considered trading for 991.2 GTS for refined chassis (no technical evidence to point to here but the .2 feels more composed), rear wheel steering and ability to customize my own build but the sum of the differences isn't worth the cost. And I would probably miss the 991 Powerkit engine, both for its usable powerband, and outstanding exhaust note. Love winding this through the gears.
The likely notable drawback, however, is engine. It looks as though larger turbos account for all of the added power. On the 991.2S 7MT I really felt the added boost versus the base engine, and didn't care for it. I imagine that the new Powerkit equipped GTS will have even more pronounced boost. Not sure but I would not order without a test drive. The new GTS equipped with PDK would be ideal as this transmission masks a lot of the lag in my experience. Would be a great daily driver.
If considering the two right now I'd be hard pressed to pass up the 991.1 GTS because I think there's good value there. You can probably find a 2015-16 with low miles for close to $110k. A new GTS is going to be closer to $150k, and is in no way worth a ~35% premium over a similarly equipped 2016 model.
Personally, I'm awaiting the new GT3. If available with 6MT and slightly based on the 911R I'll go for it, and enjoy my GTS through the long wait.
Beautiful day today. Clean and dry roads so I took my garage queen out of hiding for a quick ride with my 7 year-old son. He asked me to put up the wing when parked in the driveway (he knew about the wing from Forza 6). I'd never witnessed my car with the wing up before today.
Took a couple dozen pictures before our ride. Here are the least ugly. Only looks acceptable when viewing from front of car (when you really can't see it). From all other angles it looks like somebody forgot to close the trunk.
Desperately in need of the proper ducktail but hate to pour a lot more money into this car after spending so much on paint correction, XPEL, Ceramic Pro, etc. Nevertheless, I'm even more compelled to get the duck after seeing the rather sad looking rear lip on the 991.2 Exterior Design Package. The ducktail is most certainly a defining quality of the 991.
(Put wing down--where it belongs--before pulling out of driveway.)

Makes sense...especially the part about the $40k premium to get the new car and what it offers. Agree that it may not indeed impose a premium over the 991.1 GTS.

Thanks Blue...was just curious as I've been following your journal and original search and thoughts and remember the GTS 991.1 vs what would the GTS 991.2 be when it arrived. I think your reasoning is sound and although I don't enjoy the secret joys of a 991.1 GTS; I do agree that my 991.1S is pretty special and taxes the majority to all of my driving ability everytime I drive it as designed and even then I am still behind the car in skill and capability but not spirit.
I think the premium one would pay to upgrade would not be worth it at this time...unless one just needed a new car with the most recent technology, and had to spec it themselves...and oh yeah had $$ to spare to the Porsche/VW fund without objection. Also with the 992 basically what 2-3 years away from debut now...I'd pause as well if I was moving from another 991. Now if I had a 997 GTS then it maybe a better proposition. As for the 991.2 GT3 doubt it will be a manual as didn't Porsche say PDK is the future from now on...Ferrari style given the take rate and power/hp ratio needs? But then again there is the 991R to prove them wrong. Wonder if they will make a 991.2R?
Visited dealer today and checked out black R and UV RS. Crammed into the showroom so it was hard to get decent pics.
The R's satin-finished wheels go beautifully on black, very subtle and more interesting than black/black.
And the carbon fiber mirrors looked equally amazing on black. Excellent touch.
Dealer asking almost $100k over for the RS online. Supposedly they have a +$25k offer but are holding out for more! The UV is a pretty color but the RS is so extreme I think it looks best in more boring colors like black (or silver or white). I am tempted to buy an RS but not at a premium.
Made them an MSRP offer on silver RS almost a year ago (when they had 3 or 4 in stock) and they laughed at me. Asked salesperson to call me when they were ready. Obviously, never heard from them. Very surprised that values are holding so well.

I'm loving my black more and more as well. In fact, I would now even consider ordering black given the choice which is saying a lot for me. But damn, Miami blue, Racing yellow, Carmine red, and.... all so beautiful.

Been a while since I’ve posted, and a recent long journey inspired an update.[/SIZE][/FONT]
First things first, I cannot believe how comfortable this car is on long rides. (I have the 18-ways, SPASM and PDCC.) The highway ride is surprisingly compliant. After a two-hour drive, zero fatigue. This is the first time I really stretched her legs on a long highway drive, and was pleased. Hard to stay under 90MPH but that’s another story. Almost didn’t take my garage queen because I was headed to casino for a day of poker. I never valet, and am extremely paranoid about the parking garages. Fortunately, we arrived super early and got rock-star parking.
Over the past several months, my opinion has changed on a couple options... Sunroof. Use it all the time. Like how I can have it popped open in back for ventilation and still have the screen closed for sun protection. I would not spec a Carrera without a sunroof. Zero rattles and screen does an excellent job of blocking sun and heat. Burmester. If you use your car frequently, really enjoy music and plan to keep car for a while, I recommend the upgrade. It’s an option that takes a while to appreciate. Sometimes you don’t want to hear the motor or exhaust and just want to crank up the tunes.
Short-shifter installed, and can tell you with confidence that it’s one of the cheapest ways to improve feel of the 7MT. The stock shifter is too tall and sort of sloppy. The OEM short-shifter solves both issues, and should’ve come this way from the factory.
Rennline grilles installed. Again, should’ve come like this from the factory. Nice touch.
And OEM Sport Design front spoiler installed. Subtle detail but very attractive.

As you may know, I had rear de-badged because of full paint-correction. I originally wanted to put “PORSCHE” back, but gave up after not being able to find the template. After living with it for a couple months, decided to permanently go naked out back. Just looks nice. I’ve seen some 911s look too bare without any lettering but I think it works perfectly, at least on black.
All black. Let me tell you, pictures do no justice because it’s difficult to photograph. I didn’t like the thought of black wheels on a black car but after a while wouldn't want it any other way. And after dumping a small fortune on paint-correction, detailing, PPF & ceramic coating, the black holds up shockingly well. Even after driving a few hundred miles (and in the rain), the car still has a mirror-like shine. These new coatings have really changed the whole black-is-a-nightmare-to-maintain thing. It’s obviously still not as easy as other colors, but almost always looks great between baths. Short aside- Washing this car is very easy with power washer, foam cannon and Master Blaster. I’ve never laid a finger on paintwork. With ceramic coating, I haven’t even had to use two-bucket method.
Back seats are 100% usable if you have small children. My kids love them, and we'll all dearly miss them on GT3. Running errands with kiddos and new German shepherd puppy. (All black, of course!)
Sport exhaust. Sound is near perfection. It’s a significant part of this car’s appeal IMO, particularly because you can’t always double/triple the speed limit but you can always enjoy the exhaust note. Also, appreciate having the option to leave it off. Sounds excellent even without sport exhaust.
Love this car but will likely be selling in the near future for .2 GT3. Since I refuse to get raped by a dealer, plan on selling privately. So hit me up if you’re in the market, or plan on being in the market within the next year.

Been storing my GTS at my other place because I recently got a new toy and ran out of garage space. After not driving it for a few weeks, you really appreciate all over again.
This is one of those cars, particularly in manual, that you would hold onto forever if you had the space and funds.
I’ve been after the new GT3 for about a year now. Tried putting a couple deals together with dealer spec’d cars but failed, as I won’t pay a steep premium. I went from “I won’t pay a penny over,” to “maybe I’ll pay $10k over if I found the perfect spec,”
I would truly miss the sunroof and rear seats (and Burmester) if I eventually wind up with a GT3. Wish the Touring could be optioned with rear seats.
Feel like I’ve been led on too much about my chances for a GT3 allocation with more than one dealer. Porsche does a real ****ty job managing expectations of both customers and dealers. Out of pure frustration, I’m tempted to go an alternative route and swear off the brand based on my experience with Porsche trying to secure a GT3 allocation, beginning with .1. The way they handle GT car allocations sends a bad signal to the customer.
Anywho, enough ranting. Plan on long, long overdue bubble bath, and I’ll try to post some more pics when she’s all shiny and new looking aonce again.
