Default New Owner 991 C2S - With ?s

Hi Guys,

Been lurking here for over 6 months...always wanted a P-car. As luck would have it a 7MT 2012 991 with sport chrono, sport exhaust, sport techno wheels, and sport PASM showed up. Just couldn't resist it...and now it's mine.

Few questions I had:
1) Car has 10k and has had regular service. Is there anything you recommend I have done upon receiving it? Will take it for brake fluid and oil changes ASAP.

2) Car only has 1 key. How do I go about getting a second? Will any year 991 key work if it hasn't been programmed yet? (I've seen a few on ebay).

3) Any experience with Zurich extended warranties? I have been offered one on this car but am not sure if Fidelity would be better.

Thanks,
NF

Where are you buying the car?

I would not accept with only one key. Have them buy a new one and then recode both keys so the "lost" key will be made inactive.

Does it come with any service history?

At 4 years old w/10K miles it should have had one oil change already and be ready to have it's brake fluid changed again if it wasn't already done.

CSK thanks for the advice. It has had the oil changed an a brake fluid change last year. Full service records are up to date per the local Porsche dealership. Unfortunately the seller won't supply a second key so I'm on my own. Was hoping to see if I could buy a second key online and have it coded at the local dealer.

Thanks,
NF

That's a bummer about the key. I hope they don't show up and steal the car.

Buy a key from the dealer and have both recoded. Probably a fast $500 out of pocket.

If you keep the car long here's a maintenance schedule. If you are a DIY'er maintenance is pretty straight forward.

Congrats on picking up the 991! Heck of a first P car Definitely get a 2nd key! I believe I have Fidelity on my Cayman but never have had to use it so no insight there haha

Since the car is 4 years old I am wondering if you guys think I should have the air filters and spark plugs done? I would imagine that's gonna set me back $2k+ at the dealer. It's only got 10k miles and has been driven in a pretty clean environment. It is tempting to hold off for a year or two.

Fabspeed thanks for the kind words. Your exhausts are the soundtrack to my dreams.

Not a bad idea to have it done, if memory serves me right the book calls for plugs at 4years/40k whichever comes first. I'll be doing mine every 10k-15k as I use my car...thoroughly lol. Filter is always nice to do, but i'd upgrade to a BMC filter over the paper filter. They flow better, last longer, and serviceable instead of having to throw it out. There is a reason they come factory on the 918 and used in factory motorsport applications.

That being said $2k is absolutely ridiculous for that kind of service. $1k would be overkill by a couple hundred dollars IMO. It should only take an hour to replace the filter (the bumper comes off easier than you'd think) and the plugs are essentially staring you in the face once you get it up on the lift. For reference, here is a DIY article on a plug change for a 991 GT3.

Also, thank you very much for the kind words! We take a lot of pride in what we've been able to accomplish on these P-cars, and the 991 is no exception. Here a clip for you of our full 991 suite, and if you're every interesting in unleashing some of the potential, don't hesitate to reach out any time. Would love to work with you and come up with a setup to meet your goals

brake flush every 2yrs
plugs every 4yrs but I'd prob wait 1more yr given your low mileage
some dealers wont program keys not purchased from them, YMMV.
