991.1 Changing to Sport Steering Wheel, what is required?
Looking to purchase a used 991.1 and I see lots of configurations, and some that have changed to the sport steering wheel with paddle shifters. What is required to change out the steering wheel, and will everything work as OEM
Do you loose functions? Will Dealership do the work? How does the change affect warranty? |
Just had exactly the same done, dealer fitted
So basically you will end up with a steering wheel and paddle shifters! The 991.1 sports design wheel (or at least the one I've got) doesn't support heated or any other switching e.g phone, menu access etc. Warranty unaffected. |

For me, the sports steering wheel cost me $990 and the installation was $140 at the dealer. Once installed, remember to test the paddles. Pull both towards you to see if the PDK goes into neutral

If the car you buy doesn’t have the sport design steering wheel I recommend switching to the 991.2 wheel. A bit more pricey but definitely worth the upgrade.

Wheel 695.00 Install DIY had to purchase socket for DIY change cost about 10 bucks from Amazon. Already had torque wrench.
This is a 10 minute DIY as long as you aren't going from a multifunction wheel to SD wheel. |
still need dealer to program paddle shifter. Unless going to neutral while driving is something you don't care about.

Are you saying if I replace a 991.1 SD wheel with paddles (no MF or heat) with one of the many 2015 or later options from a 991, Panny, Macan etc, that the paddles will run through neutral on their way up or down (not the double pull, which we know puts you in neutral)?
https://rennlist.com/forums/991/7675...l-purpose.html It is also in the owner's manual http://www.porscheownersmanuals.com/...ving-programme This function needs dealer programing if you change your wheel to the sports design type |
Just picked up a 991.1 w/ multi function wheel, and want to swap
I am new to this thread and was wondering if anyone has made the 991.2 wheel work? Or is the 991.1 sport/paddles still the best option?
Thanks |

Personally i would not go from a MF .1 steering wheel to the sport wheel because you will lose the MF buttons........(unless you dont care much for them)
The only option for me is going with the .2 steering wheel......which cost a lot more |
I have a '13 car so how much is it to convert to the 991.2 wheel and is it functional, ie. buttons?
