retrofit 991.2 PCM to 991.1 ?
I am having my PCM replaced under warranty due to defects. Does anyone know if it's possible to retrofit the PCM from the 991.2 into the 991.1? I don't mind paying the cost difference plus any extra labor if I can upgrade to the newer and better unit.

Wow this would be a million dollar question. Because if you could go 992 PCM to 991 then maybe you could upgrade 991 PCM to 992.
BTW - What irritates you about the 992 PCM that makes you want to downgrade?

Sorry, Mongo not speak so well. I meant .2 to .1 and maybe .1 to .2.
Still curious what he doesn't like about the .2, it seems some people buy the car just because of the new PCM.

People ... EVERYONE would want to upgrade their PCMs ... I really doubt Porsche will ever allow it. The 991.2 PCM makes the 991.1 system practically look like betamax. I think Porsche wants you to get another 911. Cha-ching.

Wrote this up before -- The .2 PCM is not just a lipstick-job on the existing .1 PCM. Entirely new unit, new internals, and there are a bunch of controller modules around the car tied to it. Is it possible? Sure, anything is possible -- you could re-wire the entire car, change the harness, etc. etc. With money and time I am sure a competent shop could figure it out. I think it would have to be a pretty radical custom job tho on the internals and a bit of new ground to cover that might mess with the electronics throughout the car. Is that worth it?
But maybe I'm wrong.... 12v Nick / Musicar?

I know! Just having fun.
Porsche is ALWAYS behind the times with the electro gadgets. Point I'm trying to make. The .2 PCM still isn't there!
One thing that "dates" these cars are the electronics these days. Changing very fast.

Look at .1 prices!
You'd spend $10K+ to "hope" to get a .2 PCM fully complete.

I haven't done any hands-on research with the possibilities, but I'm sure it's like Plenum says — it's not a direct swap piece. There are a ton of systems that communicate with the PCM, so a retrofit like that could be fairly involved. If someone could do it, it would probably be us, but you'd better bring an open checkbook and an open-ended due date.
It's not a completely farfetched idea though. We work with a good amount of BMW's and companies like BimmerTech offer retrofit upgrades for the new iDrive systems into older platforms. Maybe they'll branch out and make some happy .1 owners... who knows.
