When I was under the car with a tech I asked about the water pump issues and showed me an updated part on my late model 18T. It has reinforcing fins on the corners where they are known to crack.
Well it took Porsche long enough to come up with an updated part considering how long the 991 has been around. And I/we have seen enough coolant leaks from this part on forums.
I took a chance and ordered the plastic coolant pipe and it looks just like that. Notice the heavy gusset where it typically leaks which is used to stiffen the mounting flange.
Even though my 2015 991 in on CPO, I'll be doing this job myself. Obviously, few people work on this series of car. I haven't found a single water pump replacement DIY, not that I absolutely need one.
The water pump is easily seen from the rear even with the car parked on the ground. Keep an eye out for any signs of white or pink residue near the bottom of the housing.
