Default Brake fluid flush with the Power Bleeder

Rather than spend the $200 or more that the dealer charges for a brake fluid flush, I bought the Motive Power Bleeder and decided to do it myself. The bleeder worked great, used genuine Porsche DOT4 fluid, and the brake system is good for another 2 years.

Couple of notes: get the bleeder set up with a pint or so of new fluid in it, and prime the hose so that you get fluid into the reservoir sooner. Some say pump it up to 15 psi, but I didn't go past 7 psi and had plenty of flow out of the bleeders.

Simple job. The hardest part is getting the fat wheels back on, so I need to go get some 14mm shoulder bolts and make up a couple of pilot studs for next time.

The Motive Power Bleeder is a great product! Glad to hear it worked for you. Do you know off hand what the part number is for the master cylinder adapter you used? I have a couple, but they are for domestic cars. Thanks.

The part number for the kit is #0100 and it's the "European" version with the 45mm cap. Not sure if you can get just the master cyl caps separately.

I've used Motive bleeders and they do work well, but I personally prefer the much simpler Power Probe BA05. You use it to lightly pressurize the master reservoir itself, one less thing to clean and store. You do need an air compressor with the ability to control the pressure though...

It also wastes much less fluid. Not a big deal if you are using most normal fluids, but I like to run Castrol SRF and at $60+ a pint, I don't like to waste any nor would I want to re-bottle it after putting it in the Motive.

The only disadvantage is that if you want to flush the entire system instead of just bleeding, you need to depressurize, remove the cap, and top of the system once or twice during the process.

About $30.

As for wheel hangers, no need to make your own unless you really want to... M14x1.5 pilot pins are readily available for under $10. Absolute must IMHO if you do your own wheel or brake work on a Porsche.

I use a Motive to pressurize the master cylinder reservoir but don't always put fluid in the container. So, as you suggest, there is no waste of super expensive fluid. When I am doing OEM fluid work, though, I do fill the Motive container as it's much quicker.

Nice work, OP, it's really satisfying to do your own maintenance. And with the money you save you can buy some more tools!

The Motive website indicates the Black label European for Porsche is 1109. Other sites indicate 1100, I am not sure why there is a difference. Anyone know which to buy?

They both will fit. But the 0109 Black Label has an aluminum cap and swivel fitting which makes attaching and removing far easier. This is the the one to get.

Awesome write up. I use the Motive - Black Label version, it has an anodized aluminum cap for longevity . One thing, the torque specs on the bleeder screws are 9-12ft-lb. Start with 9ft-lb to be safe.
