Cobra Telematics supplies the 'Security' feature of Porsche Car Connect(PCC).
It was suggested on another Post, that simply removing the SIM card would disable this security feature.
Information from Cobra and Porsche NA is understandably lacking on just how the security is implemented.
So I decided to test the Security feature while dropping off my 991.2 for service.
Removed the SIM card and used PCC to locate my car.
PCC correctly showed the exact position of my car.
To further test whether PCC was just not remembering the last position of the car, I Used PCC to sound the alarm remotely, this required communication between my iPhone and my 991.2 be established with and after the SIM card was removed.
Alarm sounded shortly after.
Implementation of Security is not provided to users because Security services don't want the implementation acquired by the wrong individuals.
So I don't know 'what & how' but I do know PCC works with the SIM card removed!
As I also related LOJACK service is not available to me in Wisconsin. Law Enforcement does not monitor LOJACK in Wisconsin.-Richard
