New clutches are plastic to save weight.

These cars will be in the scrap yard in 10 years. Imagine replacing a transmission when the value of the car is about the same cost. Truly heart breaking.

Reason number 97 to just get the manual.

It's a wash as far as the engine is concerned but I had a look at the new car at the dealership and hands down the .2 is a better looking vehicle. The nip and tuck is subtle but significant. Beautiful design!

I drove a 991.2 C2 and C2S back to back last week. Both were manual and both had PSE.

Power / Turbo Lag : the C2 felt very linear and I didn't feel any turbo lag. The turbo whine was clearly heard and I liked it. The car was fast but it didn't excite me. I was underwhelmed. The PSE pop and crackle off throttle was fun - on it I didn't think there was much too it.
The C2S was noticeably faster. The turbo whine equally audible. The turbo lag was clear to feel. The pop and crackle was there again but this time under acceleration there was much more of a throaty growl to the engine. Overall much more enjoyable experience.

In the end I decided to buy a 991.1 C4S and I love love love the growl of the NA when you are on it - imo much nicer than the .2
Great, fair and honest reporting.

Both great cars, your pay your money and you enjoy your 911 . Both are good choices.

I'll bet it does not win a RedDot design "best of the best "award like the .1.....

That's the supreme objective measure.

Well when you make a couple small tweaks to one of the best looking cars ever made, it doesn't become suddenly ugly...

I don't prefer the new look to the old though.

These cars get so thoroughly tested - thrashed - I wouldn't worry. They're over engineered.

Re the composite pan: 1) German plastic tech is brilliant & 2) yes they did those drop tests. Expect use of more composites as every incremental kg (mg!) matters.

991.2 is unlikely to win this not because it's not brilliant - it is, those subtle creases really add tension - but because it's incremental change of the 991.1 design that already won.

We'll just have to agree to disagree. For those of us that prefer clean, zen lines, the new busier styling cues are a step in the wrong direction. But looks are personal taste.

It's hard to be objective when you've been seeing one car for 5 years and the other is new though. If you go back and look at when Ferrari went from the 360 to the F430, all the tweaks were designed to add tension and make it more aggressive. In hindsight now though, the 360 is the smoother, more classy, better looking car.
