Gonna go against the grain here. Your car's value is likely to drop after the new model comes out. People always want the newest , latest thing and they usually have enough money to drop the last gen Porsche quickly to get into that newest thing. That means value drop. Remember , the vast majority of Porsche owners aren't rennlist fanatics, they just like having new nice things. Will it depreciate 20%, that I doubt but at least 10% is quite probable. I do have to agree with the many posts stating that if you weren't expecting a pretty good amount of depreciation you probably should have bought used. Though I have to say I love that new car smell. Go take the car for a drive and enjoy it. That's what you really bought it for. Let the rest take care of itself. Not like you have control of it anyways.

I agree that many people do want the newest, latest thing... but often that's only to show off to their neighbors. Aside from the lunatic fringe (which would be us) few folks can tell a 911 form a Caymen, let alone a .1 from a .2. Make a drastic redesign and the old version will likely drop in price (see Corvette), but when the wrapper looks the same the price won't change much.

Be careful anytime that you use the word always. I along with many others who owned 993s back in the late 90s weren't eager to "upgrade" to the 996. Moreover, I believe that many 911 owners aren't fans of turbos. So not withstanding the improved performance of the 991.2, there may not necessarily be lots of 991 owners who want to "upgrade" to a 991.2.

The big depreciation has already occurred on your car. From this point on, depreciation slows down because depreciation is percentage of the remaining value.
I you like your car, drive and enjoy it. Depreciation on a nice 911 seems to stop at 40K. From here on in, your car is cheap to own.
Yes, I know, why did I trade a 13 C2S convertible with 9300kms (less than 6,000 mi). Well, I just like to impress my neighbors.

What did happen to 993 used values after the 996 came out? Anyone remember?

Yes, I answered that question in the other "what are 991.1s going to be worth?" thread. They depreciated. Like they would have whether or not they were replaced by the 996. Just a slow, steady depreciation through the middle-2000s. They bottomed in the high thirties for higher-miles no-stories cars, then started back up. But specials like C4S stalled in the fifties and started back up sooner and faster. My idiot older brother ignored me in 2002 when I told him to buy a 97 or 98 C4S or C2S; he bought a 2002 C2 3.6 instead. Paid 9X,000, sold it in 2009 with 15,000 miles for 42,000. If he had gone C2S in 2002 he'd have bought for $55,000 and sold 7 years later for 80k. Alas...

Fort Lauderdale had some impressive used exotic car dealerships back when I lived there in the 1980s. The Auto Toy Store on Sunrise Blvd was always filled with Ferraris and Porsches. Too bad there was never a place within a day's drive to actually drive these cars as intended.

I do see his point for cars less special than a 911. For instance when they do a refresh on an Escalade or 7 series or C class. The older model year may be only 14 mos old, but next to the new, it looks much older. Who wouldn't pay a little more for the refresh which, said a different way, means the non-refreshed models just hit a patch of accelerated depreciation...

I appreciate everyone's feedback. I agree with most disagree with some. That's life. The sticker on my car was $131k. I paid a year ago $89k. At that time my buddy said I got a great deal even better then the Manheim auction. Fast forward now. The auction is selling them now in mid 70's I have two years of warranty left. So I'm definitely keeping it for 2 years at minimum

Your dealer friend is a dope. When you take into account taxes/fees and flattening depreciation curves, your total cost of ownership is always lower if you hold onto cars for longer.
