Porsche 911 show on Velocity
Watching this thing now and completely disappointed. I thought this was going to be a documentary on the history of the 911. Instead it is just a long infomercial for the 991.2.
This just looks desperate and very un-Porschelike.

That was very disappointing and cheesy.
New Porsche marketing basically says that the 991.1 is a piece of crap.
The new one is iteratively better but not light years as the cool aid indicates. The turbos where necessitated by government. Many countries have significant tariffs for engines over 3.0 any mileage of course...

I saw the commercial for it yesterday. Couldn't decide who it made look more desperate, Porsche or Velocity. Passing infomercials off as network content now?

I've been seeing the commercials for it all week, and I set it up to record just in case I forgot about it. I guess I did not pay close enough attention to what it was going to be.
And yeah basically the plot was that the 991.1 was crap. The test drivers were sort of "fighting" about who got to drive the .2 cause the .1 was "old" and "slow"

Coincidentally, I am old and slow, so the 991.1 is perfect for me.
Porsche is going to have difficulty selling these new 911s because all the young and fast people are typically broke!

I enjoyed feeling my "old and slow" 4900 mile 911.1 come to life this morning when we cleared 4000 rpm's and it raced to the redline. The .2 may be quicker, but if Porsche was so sure it was better they wouldn't need a 30 minute infomercial. Thanks for the warning about the show, I'm much less eager to find it in my DVR now.

Not too sure about tough to sell. My dealer is now selling for Sept. delivery. Allocations are being pushed further back. Mind you that is not unusual with a new model.

The really sad thing about the show was that it had so many people whose opinions would have been interesting if they had just driven the cars and commented on how they were working on the track. The only insight mildly worthy of the cast seemed to be the opinions about rear wheel steering and racing rules.
The blather about sounds and lack of tubo lag was overscripted, overdone, repetitious and silly to the point of announcing corportate defensivness on a par with "software, what software?"

I get the feeling that many .1 owners are disappointed that Porsche has introduced a superior car. We all know when we buy a new car that in a short period of time there will be something better.

Seeing drivers of that caliber gushing over cabs on the track doing parade laps for the camera, emoting over what anyone who has driven a 991.2 hard knows are non issues should drive prospective buyers to cross shop Corvettes!
