Default Hats off to PDK

As much as I enjoy my MT, and will keep my MT, I haveto admit that the advantage of PDK is almost cheating. I had a track event thisweekend and the PDK cars were able to keep their revs in the power band while Igot lazy every now and then and skipped a shift (i.e. didn’t downshift into thetop of 2nd when I could have and just stayed in the middle of 3rd).I’ll still keep the MT though.

Just read the latest Christophorus and there was one article about the 911 R. They mentioned that the PDK will make you drive faster. But they are making the R for driver's involvement.

hypothetically... since the R's won't get driven.

Jay,

Were you at VIR too?

I noticed the same thing, especially when I expected to maintain speed through a corner, and the car in front of you unexpectedly slows, and I got caught in the wrong gear for optimal acceleration. The DCT/PDK guys had no problem flicking a quick mid-corner downshift.

I was at Summit Point while you were at VIR. Wicked weather Sunday morning (we had snow on the ground) but it turned out to be a great day.

DOH! You would think I would remember that from the other thread. Maybe too much before posting. Saturday started off wet at VIR, but warmed up nicely, and Sunday morning was cold, and windy. I wish the 991's TPMS readout included tire temps, like my F80 has.

Honestly, IMO this is even a bigger advantage on the street, where you're not as familiar with the road as you are on a 12 turn track you've circled a thousand times. That ability to put yourself in the perfect gear nearly instantaneously at any time is a huge plus, both in terms of driving enjoyment and safety. I love my MT as well, but the advantages of the PDK when rocking are very real.
