My 2012 991 has the stock exhaust and I struggled for a while trying to decide if I should change it and if so... to what? I thought about the PSE but the more I looked at the titanium Akrapovic the more I liked it. With the wireless controller I can shut the valves to quiet the thing down for the neighborhood or around town. And it is extremely light. Here are some pictures of each component on my postal scale.
Side Mufflers: 10.5 Lbs each
Valves (At least I think that is what the round things are): 1.7 Lbs
misc hardware: 1.7 Lbs
Tips: 3 Lbs for the pair
Center section: 15.7 Lbs
Once I get everything installed I will post my impressions. I don't think anyone else has posted about the Akrapovic on a 3.4L 991 yet.
The button is bigger than I thought it would be. Where do people mount these usually?
Can't wait until it's installed so we can see what you think about it
I'm really excited to have this system. I will also weigh the stock stuff for comparison. I think the weight savings Akrapovic quotes is vs. the PSE system and I suspect my standard system weighs more based on how it looks.
On the 3.4, the standard system is a bit lighter than the PSE. Having done this before (991 3.4 with Stock to PSE after delivery), the reason is that there are a few less parts (no vacuum lines for example) with the standard system and I believe there is only one 'canister' vs. 2 in the 991S and PSE.
Oh well. I saw that big metal box behind the bumper and figured it had to weigh more.
Will try to get some good sound clips.

Well the installation has hit some snags. First the bolts/studs holding the old exhaust on were so corroded they had to be drilled out. Surprising that 4 years and 40K miles can do that to an exhaust system but perhaps Porsche "cheaped out" on the studs.
Unfortunately the wireless kit is not cooperating either. If anyone has gotten this kit to work on a non-PSE 991 please post any tips you may have. HG Motorsports is in contact with Akrapovic though so hopefully it can be resolved soon. I really don't want to have to choose a permanent setting for the valves.
Unfortunately it was too late on Friday to get a solution out of Akrapovic.
The stock exhaust weighs 56 Lbs.

Reason: adding pics
Sorry to hear about the sound kit. Send me a message if you need any further help or if you've already reached out to Nick here at our office whom you might already be in touch with.
No luck yet on getting the wireless remote "Sound Kit" working but we have Akrapovic looking into it so I am sure it will be resolved soon.
In the meantime I have the car back with the system set to "quiet" mode. It sounds absolutely wonderful! It is a huge improvement over my stock (non-PSE) exhaust. Has a nice little burble to it on overrun and is very mellow in tone whereas the stock system could be a little raspy and harsh.
Power and torque in the lower RPM range is also improved based on how responsive it feels now.
A big thanks to HG Motorsports for the installation. Very happy with them and would not hesitate to give them the highest recommendation.
I will try to get a video posted to show how it sounds in quiet mode this weekend. Hopefully they will have the remote sorted out soon.
How's the sound compared to PSE?
I'm debating this vs Fabspeed Cats. I had the Skra on my M3 and didn't think it was much of a difference vs the M sport exhaust.
